For the last week my phone cable has been lying across a busy road after a truck pulled the pole down.

I logged the call with Telkom as well as called the Telkom Area Manager who told me "he is a very busy person, and would come out as soon as possible" .

Well I now sit and wait. An ADSL technician called me to confirm my line is up (which it is) but I made her aware of the situation that it wont be up for very much longer ! Ithen get an SMS stating the call has been closed !!

So has anybody got any contacts in Telkom's cabling division as it seems my calls are going nowhere.

Any help would greatly be appreciated !

Call their cable theft helpline ... hold .. lemme find it.
Found : cable theft hotline on 0800 222 771.

They will react to this cos it's a risk to them, and will make them seem proactive, and they will get the applause for reacting, where the rest of teklom will most likely not.

rather tell them someone is busy stealing the cable... I'm sure they'll pitch up quicker.

it is also not a complete lie.

Tried all of the above and still nothing.

I have even resorted to reporting 48 analogue lines as being faulty with 48 fault numbers !!!

Maybe they are ignoring me agter my numerous logged calls ??

If all else fails I'll do it myself !!

why not dig a trench in the road and bury the cable in it? If it gets someone's attention, the problem should get fixed. If it doesn't get any attention, you've fixed YOUR problem :)

So Bekdik.. I took you advice and started digging and doing my own "preventitive maintenance" go have a look:

Kidding, There is now road widening in my street and they have begun to work.

However my problem still persists !!!! I dont know what else to do !!

WTF??? amaxed your line works.......

Bit worried about that Phone booth... lacking in Telkom Green ;) ;) ;)

Your situation is serious...... that should have been attended to ASAP. Sheesh! You could go down to Telkom HQ in your town and speak to them face to face with those pictures in hand! Or flag a telkom bakkie down!

Last resort stuff

Yup, believe it or not there actually 5 x "upto 4Mbit" DSL lines on that cable / pole ! I am also helluva surprised its still up, the cable it now drooping all the way down the road, going over many electric fences and driveways.

I wish I could take this somewhere but I dont know where ??? They are business lines with 60 analogue lines, 2 ISDN and 5 DSL coming into the office. I received yet another SMS today telling me that my fault had been resolved after calling the tech centre and them telling me there is supposedly a technician on site. He's a damn illusive techniciain as I didnt see him anywhere...

Oh well... tomorrow is another day of fighting...

They won't fix it until it breaks.

All they do is test your line remotely, see that it works, and then the report is automatically "resolved" as far as they're concerned.

The pole could have fallen into your swimming pool, for all they care, and they still wouldn't do anything about it if their remote computers showed that it was working.

Here a tip truck [with the bin up] snapped a cable between two poles last year. The whole street was out of service. Took them about one week to fix.

Your number just rings when someone tries to call you:confused:

Disgusting service from them... i can't believe they can leave something like that for so long!

Pole is up !

So eventually there's a happy ending ( 2.5 weeks later)

This comes after I had sent information packs (consisting of pictures, my story, case numbers and prints of my various forum activity) to senior management of Telkom (Mr Reuben September CEO, Ms Shirley Lue Arnold, Chairperson of Board of Directors & Ms Bintu Petsane, Group Executive: Corporate Communications) individually to their PTA offices.

This morning I received a call from a very friendly Pynne Chetty who is the assistant to Ms Bintu Petsane Group Executive: Corporate Communications.

Seems it takes a little shouting and then they jump.

I must say, the staff that I have dealt with now have been extremely friendly and obviously trying to solve the problem. What was fascinating was the accuracy from Mr Pynne Chetty, he said that there will be a team arriving at my office in the next hour and low and behold there was a team outside erecting the pole !

Will confirm once everything is back up and 100% running.
