Hey guys

Bout 2 years ago I bought a Caddy bakkie '98 from a 2nd hand dealer.
Previous owner fitted a 2L CLi 16v motor. Repainted it, almost replaced everything on it 2 make it all shiney and *****.
Problem is it doesnt idle when its cold, and doesnt start 1st time I turn the key.
When engine is hot, no problems.
Had 4 diff mechanics look at it but none of em can solve the problem.
Spoke to another bloke he suggests change the fuel management system. Apparently it has a mechanical one atm.

Any suggestions here?
Can I do it myself?
What can I use?

Cheers
S

if any1 can suggest another forum I can post on please advise

i had a similar not starting easily when cold story a while ago. It eventually got fixed when the mechanic replaced the distributor cap(the one that goes over the sparkplugs). He said something about ''brushes being worn''.

I think these motors have a cold start goodie. It probably needs a new one of those....whatever they are called. Go to the GTi forum the guys will probably know quite a bit more.

clean the idle control valve (ICV), just take it off, dunk it in carb cleaner overnight, dry it, then lightly spray with wd40.
linky
http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1932 (8v shown but pretty similar on the 16v...or use you own google)

and then check the o-ring seals on the fuel injectors...check to replace...

also, the throttle has a stop switch when fully closed...a small microswitch which tells the engine management to activate "idle"...if the car has been fiddled with the throttle cable tends to have been tightened or otherwise jippoed so the switch no longer gets activated. so once all the above is sorted, go make sure the switch is still triggered.
car off...slowly (from the engine bay) move the throttle...you should hear a very faint click from the switch everytime you slowly let it come back to fully closed, and a small little click once you start moving it again.

Hey Werner thnx for the straight answer, helped alot.
Ok stop switch/microswitch is there but the plug is not in and only 1 wire is connected, middle one.
Any idea where the other 2 go, they broke off :(.

Couldnt clean the ICV, cant get allen keys loose so need to make a plan there....
