Angola vs Mali. What an opening game. Angola was winning 4-0 in the 70th odd minute but Mali came back to draw the game scoring 3 goals after 89 minutes. Very entertaining. I didnt expect much but was surprised.

Angola stunned by Mali fightback

Mali made a miraculous recovery to pull back from a four-goal deficit to hold Angola to a 4-4 draw in the opening game of the 2010 Oramge Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

It looks like Africa is producing its finest despite the human tragedy in Cabinda.

The game was brilliant last night! Must have beeen one of the greatest fightbacks I've ever seen.

I went to sleep when it was 3-0, but got a shock in the morning that it was a 4 all draw. I was just tired I slept.

Hopefully today's games will be good as well. Go Malawi. LOL

Algeria were handed a World Cup reality check when supposed minnows, Malawi, meted out a 3-0 thrashing to the Desert Foxes in the Africa Cup of Nations in Luanda on Monday.

Great result for Malawi! :D

Here...

From now on almost all the games will be delayed on the SABC, with broadcast times of 22h00, 23h00 etc.

Really smart of SABC. Pay 1 billion rands for broadcasting rights and then show the games delayed.

Whilst I personally do not give a rats ass about SABC or its programming, I do feel for the 1000's of South Africans who rely on this EPIC FAIL of an institution for their footie! At that time of night many won't be able to watch, especially if it's work the next day (and Kuga is excluded here :D).

I do wish somehow Supersport could find a way to broadcast it to the masses.

On a brighter note . . . today's games are:

17:00 Egypt v Nigeria . . . and it should be a scintillating game.
19:30 Mozambique v Benin . . . will be rooting for our neighbours.

Match Schedule

I also don't understand why SABC cannot reschedule the crap (Generations, is not a critical live event ) that plays in their channels to a later time.

I predict both these games will end in dull draws like the Corte de Voire vs B Faso game...yawn, yawn, yawn time to go back to sleep

But that crap pays their bills:)
Anyway, why would SABC pay R1bn for rights when their total turn over is in the R6bn range sure 1/6 on one 4 week event is paying over the odds? Why didn't they sub-lease from SS?

The only SADC squad that could be in the semi is Angola.

Most Malawian players play in SA - even in first division. Go Malawi.

I beg to differ - a team that races to a 4-0 lead and then go to sleep and end up drawing can never get that far.

I know. They have the home support and they qualified in the last WC.
On paper, Angola is the strongest in SADC. Most of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia's play in SA where as some/most of Angola's players play overseas.

All I'm saying is North Africa is stronger than SADC, as we know. And I support all the SADC aquads.

The Angolan team is not very strong diffensively(they might have gained two spot kicks during the Mali game but that will is unlikely to happen in their reamining games)
The Premier Soccer League is one the toughest leagues in Africa. Don't believe me, ask all the top South African players that return from overseas stints only to find it tough going locally. Examples, Sibusiso Zuma, Benedict Vilakazi, Siyabonga Nkosi, Siyabonga Nomvethe, Collins Mbesuma (Zambia) etc...

Also note that most of the African players abroad are on the fringes and in the lower divisions.
SADC coutries are perhaps bad travellers but that should not be an issue as this tournament is being played in their region for the first time in like 15 years. Remember how well Zambia did in the 1996 AFCON?
Malawi has proven this fact yesterday. Now watch as Mozambique and Zambia spring surprises as well.
