Caffeine intolerance?

For every cup of coffee I drink a glass of water. And I only pee once I get home after the day at the office (normally). I also have a 2 litre bottle of water I finish during the day (I keep about 200ml for the next morning right after I get up). Usually pee before I go to bed before I drink more water, and pee when I get up again in the morning before I drink water (before breakfast)

4 times MAX during the day depending on how much I drink. I wouldn't be too concerned it being diabetes, but have it checked out (it's literally a 2 minute check they do at the chemist). You might be borderline.

No water is very important lost fluids must be replaced. The only time you don't replace what you lose is when you have a medical condition like hypertension. Or when on a strict diet and training programme

Not sure if i understand correctly, but to clarify, it's extremely important to replace lost fluids with water. Especially with a strict diet and/or training program.

Guess this is the best place to post this.

Yesterday I learned that they have dogs trained for diabetics. It can "smell" when your sugar hits a dip or spikes and reacts accordingly

More info here: http://www.diabeticalertdog.com/

Pity its to late to learn about this, as it most probably would have saved my Dad's life.

Yes. Water is an extremely important fluid for your body. Your metabolic processes can't occur without water.

Also its good to "flush" out all substances in your body.

One more thing, don't hold in your pee, if you have to go then go. Holding in pee can damage your bladder by keeping it stretched. It is a sack after all.

Cool stuff. Though its cheaper to just go to a pharmacy and get your sugar tested (its random but its good enough if you worried) will only cost you R5.

If you paranoid or have to check your blood sugar often then invest in a blood sugar testing machine and a blood pressure machine. These things are automated now so you don't need to be highly trained to do these things anymore. Also the new lances are so sharp you don't even feel the pain when you prick ur finger.

Well this dog is more for people that is already diagnosed. Mostly Old people and children that tends to not be so in tune with how they feel. Also I wanna see a machine bring you a sweet or even dial the ambulance when you passed out.

Also the reason I say if I knew about it back in 2006 my Dad would still have been with us, as he passed out from a sugar low. A dog like this would have been able to get someone's attention before it was to late.

Stop panicking the guy.

Check this out for a simple explanation:

Don't be silly man. Not everyone likes dogs one. Two people who like dogs already have dogs. Three these days things are tight with money so getting a dog is an expensive task (totally worth every cent though. I personally cannot live without a dog)

Also this is south africa if a random dog tries to bring you somewhere you won't go. Neighbours won't pay attention to a barking dog they will just think the dog is making noise cause its bored or something.

Also it doesn't matter if the dog can bring you sweets because if you passed out you can't eat that sweet anyways.

I'm sorry for your loss dude but the correct thing you can do is to teach those you know the importance of checking ones health often especially if their diabetic. Not shun them saying "can a machine do this n that"

The dog seems like a good idea and if you looking to buy a dog then why not but the dog will never be as accurate as the diagnostic equipment.

Dude, think a bit. I am not saying get this instead of a machine. Its an added measure, ie: it is cool for people that have all the other stuff already.

Oh and FYI, the dog doesn't bark to get attention, it gets trained with a panic button that it press in case of an emergency(Dials preset number be it the medical service or parents). so if a kid or older person passed out it can call for help. If the person is low on energy it can bring sweets and also carries an emergency insalun around its neck.

Anycase I just thought its cool what they can do with dogs and shared it, but I get it your a cat person?

No I'm a realist. When I recommend things for patients it must suit their lifestyle.

A cool thought/concept isn't always a viable one.

Some reports say caffeine is a diuretic while other say it's not.

I've never really liked coffee and it does not agree with me. It raises my heart rate and makes my hands shake. Just like kfc I sometimes get a craving for coffee and then I have filter coffee or espresso. Now I don't really remember if it makes me pee more (only had 7 cups this year, yes I can count them) but in winter I might have a lot of tea (no milk or sugar) and that definitely makes me pee more. If I have a cup of tea at night I wake up during the night to go pee, drinking water or juice does not do this.

Maybe try drinking water instead of coffee for a few days and see if you still have a need to pee often.

A pharmacist recommends equipment for diabetic patients , excuse my possibly ignorant question but should you be doing that?

It also depends on what you eat. Carbs hold four times their weight in water. I eat carbs only on weekend, so I'm all watered up on monday, but by weds/thursday I feel like I'm forever in the bathroom.

yes why not ? blood sugar tests must be done by the patient frequently until they achieve control. Sometimes they suppose to do RBG twice a day until their insulin is spot on for example. If they using oral medication it loses effect over time and step up therapy is needed, they must do their fasting blood glucose all the time.

This is why pharmacies sell the machines ?

Accu-Check ? for example
