I want to use GPRS to transfer data, but want to calculate the cost of this technology
What is the correct way to do this? Are there any overheads that I must take into account?

For example
I pay R89.00 for 40MB
I send 10 data files, each file 45 bytes

What will each file cost me to send?

The are definitely overheads that needs to be taken into account.

Personally, I don't like "word sums", so I will be drawn into this one! Thank you for understanding :D

You have 45 byte files? Shame!

There are various overheads. For one, it depends how it is sent. Email, FTP, HTTP, WTFEVER.

Then you also have your basic TCP overheads, about 16 bytes per packet, and packets are somewhere around 1500 in size, maximum.

So, at the very least, you'll need about 20 bytes for the IP header, and possibly 20 bytes for the TCP header.

Ok, you want to send 0,00045MB. So you will pay 1/100 000 of R89.00 roughly. Not taking into account the cost of connecting.
You will pay 0.09c. Can you afford this?

And if you're connecting via MTN you can just add on a sundry amount of R2000 :P

Tim gone? His bundle must be used up.
