Call for competitive ICT environment

[Johannesburg, 11 May 2006] - African governments and institutions have to work closely with people and firms to create a proper environment for competition if the continent is to build a healthy knowledge economy.

This was one of the findings of an ICT-focused workshop at the Conference on Knowledge for Africa's Development, held in Johannesburg this week.

My comment: African governments and institutions don't care about the people in their countries as long as they're coining it and inflating their salaries. There needs to be a greater degree of accountability to the people in African countries for cheap and reliable telecoms access (telephony and broadband)
