Only white kids bunked at my school. :)

But that remark by Sbu is a sweeping generalisation, and maybe I am generalising just as much when I doubt that there are many (if any) black kids at school in Chatsworth.

Bunking is one issue - the governments lack of desire to enforce the law that children go to school, is another issue.
There are way too many children who are begging at the road side in the mornings - and not being schooled.
If we spent less money on 4X4s, submarines and corruption in general, these kids could go to school and be fed there.

And big houses, bodyguards, security walls, poison Ivy, mercedeses, BMW's, free overseas trips for the whole family, etc,etc,etc,etc...

Do they still do role call at school?

We had role call in every class and if you were absent, a phonecall was made to the folks which usually ended up in a tanned backside at home and at school the following day. Nothing like a physical reminder everytime I sat down to make me think twice before bunking again.

I skipped school all the time. Some fun times!

But I had to be sneeky because of the role call issue.... I learned to get around the system. ;)

Try and remind a kid today and the parents will take you to court because its considered abuse, no school teacher is allowed anymore to punish a kid physically

Well that is why it is up to the parent to do the disciplining these days. Its just a pity so many of them should never have been allowed to breed in the first place! :D

Is the teacher allowed to go to the parents house and bliksem the parents then?
It just seems so unfair, it must suck to be a teacher, they are making educating the masses damn difficult.

I dont think so.

True,

Glad im not the one working in public schools, its ten times worse then your semi-private schools.

Legal caning wasn't that painful anyway, so hardly much of a deterrent. At my school it was a caning for a first offence, expulsion for a second. Only the dumb kids actually got caught.

A mate of mine worked in Germany for a while and said they have a special branch in the police to check which kids are not at school and investigate. Something like that not sure if i have it right?

we're not talking about those limpwristed little lovetaps on the botty dished out by effeminate headmasters down there in cape town dude :D

caning was a definite deterrent at the school I went to. once the metal/wood work head had dished out 4 of the best you wouldn't be able to sit for a week

It brings back memories doesn't it?
I wonder why it was always the woodwork/metalwork teacher?

ROFL!!! Too true, my woodwork teacher used either a broken hockey stick or a piece of pvc pipe. The pipe stung like hell and made that hollow zinging noise that scared the living daylights out of the rest of the class.

My Afrikaans teacher would make us bend over and place our heads under the reading desk (it was higher than the normal desks). That way we couldn't pull away when we heard that swish coming.
