Hi folks.

Being a mac user for sometime now and with Apple growing in SA, we dont really have any good support here, or any good blogs. I have two blogs id like to join to make one huge website dedicated to the Apple Computer users in SA.

I am looking for people willing to contribute to this project by becoming authors and putting up posts. All applicants must be able to speak english, write a post at least once a week and know what they are talking about when it comes to Mac.

The website will be www.applecomputers.co.za (a combination of www.iphone3g.co.za and www.allaboutmac.co.za)

Enquiries and applications to be posted to [email protected]

Thanks

I have been a Mac and iPhone user for a couple of years. I would love to contribute.

Official Apple Support other than iStore or DigiCape will be good! DigiCape is not bad though. I had one or two good experiences with them.

Great... Applications for contributions will be open soon. Whatever you speciality - let us know. Would be good to know what everyone uses their Mac for as well. Most people (in this country) think that Mac is only for Photographers and designers.

Personally I think that name + URL might become problematic in future...

Apple = Trademarked :/ - and they come down HARSH on any one who infringes...

But I am no lawyer....

True - i thought of that, but i think as long as you not selling Macs? As a blog with news and info and support Im sure it will be okay. Does Apple even know South Africa exists?

I doubt they know we exist, for them africa is the dumping ground of all the old unsellable models

It shouldn't be too much of a problem at all. They seem to, more often than not, go after people using their logo and an apple logo in general.

fxit_man is already running http://iphoneza.co.za/ ... why don't you guys work together and do one site?

The problem I have - and I'm sure many can relate - is that I have very little time to spend on the net and therefore prefer one place on the net where I can deal with everything that interests me and is relevant to my job. MyBroadband is that place for me. Here I can interact with people into everything/anything tech-wise, including Apple. The latest news comes to me through Twitter and I then go only to those items I want to investigate. That's just me, and please know it is said with good intentions. If the need do exist for a dedicated Apple site then I feel you and fxit_man should do something together.

Great reply there. I'm open to work with anyone. I don't want the site for just Apple news - theres plenty of that around. I want people who use macs such as Designers, photographers, business people, writers, teachers, gamers, etc etc to contribute to the site with their experiences of using a mac. This should be a more interactive and helpful community for mac users in South Africa. yes there will be news but lets help each other, give advice, find the best places for macs, share, etc etc. There are many switchers in South Africa and im sure we can all agree that the techies at iStore are just plain down useless. There are many pros out there who can give much better advice - therefore applecomputers.co.za should be the place for ALL your Mac, iphone, iPad, ipod, Software needs - period.

@fxit_man - Im game.

Heres the plan. The site should...
1. Provide news (up to date)
2. First hand reviews on hardware and software
3. Experiences and stories from Pro mac users
4. Guides and advices - ideas and stuff from users
5. Forum
6. One place for 2nd hand macs (and new) - FREE FREE advertising (sell your mac or anything Apple related)
7. other ideas welcome.

Im developing the rest of the site offline and will upload as soon as possible.

Shardie

What are your thoughts - I'd love to know

@Shardie - I like. Firstly your site looks great.

It seems we share much the same vision and mission! I have however implemented most of the ideas you have above over at iPhoneZA and it's respective forums, and the site has been a great success so far in the 3 months we have been live thanks to the awesome support from the community. Without any real "advertising" as such, we already have around 350 forum members!!

iPhoneZA is not dedicated to simply iPhone news. It is dedicated to the Apple Enthusiast. You name it, anything Apple. iPhone's have however been the main focus until now while we grow. I am looking for staff writers to help out with the load as I am in the middle of honours exams at the moment. We have had quite a few members who have offered to help write articles though, so I hope we can get more "broad" Apple-related articles in General soon!

I just feel we should not try to divide the community even more if we want to grow it's online presence? We can work on taking the existing community to new heights!

If you are interested as to what we can do for each other and the Apple community, we can discuss this further?

Fxit

Is there a way that you guys can meet half-way in this endevour? One site driven by two dedicated, passionate and well skilled guys will be beter than two sites, and it takes a lot to make such an endevour succesful in the long run. Both web addresses can point to the same site, but with a new name both agree on. Just a suggestion. Would love to see this happen.

Yeah thats really a difficult one. Its like two men giving up one wife to share another - lol. Well i've been running iphone3g.co.za from May 2009 and allaboutmac.co.za from April 2009 but due to many things, stopped. Now that i am in the market much more, and affiliated with an Apple store (not exactly an iStore) it becomes abit more difficult to just let go, and Im sure Fxit_man will feel the same. Lets see what happens in the long run. Its by no means a battle of the best but Im sure that we will share stuff.

Ive also got macgaming.co.za that will be a sister site dedicated to mac gaming of course - this is not my site but Graham from macgaming will contribute as well.

Like i say we will see how things go.

Any suggestions?
