I have constant issues with calls being dropped, or with noise on the line. I am with Vodacom, and have a Blackberry Torch 9810.

Just now, I had to redial a friend 4 times in order to complete a conversation. My phone is set to "2G only" in order to salvage some extra battery power, and the EDGE connection shows a full signal. I am in the middle of Century City. The line just goes silent, is disconnected, and I have to redial.

This is not a once off thing. It happens constantly, whether I am on 3G or 2G. The line just dies. Earlier, I received a call from a private number which just had static from the other side - also not a once-off issue.

Does anyone know if this might be phone related or network related? Anything I can do from my side?

I have never had a conversation where the call didn't drop, and i don't know anyone who has either, Vodacom network is a POS. Using viber I get better call quality and calls don't drop. So yes its the network

Hello Friends,

A mobile phone signal (or reception) is the strength (measured in dBm) of the connection to the mobile phone with its network. Depending on various factors, such as proximity to a tower, obstructions such as buildings or trees, etc., the signal may vary. Most mobile devices use a set of bars of varying heights to display the strength of the signal where the device is located. Traditionally five bars are used; see five by five.
Dropped cell phone calls are caused by problems with phone towers, limits in service areas, and dead spots 7 Links to Related Articles. While dropped phone calls are nothing new, it does seem as if we experience them I don't know, I think I might just change my service provider, rather than paying for these devices.

Thanks And Regards.

I am having the same problem with Blackberry 9780 and Vodacom. Dropped calls, static, they can't hear me, I can't hear them.

In fact, yesterday was the worse when the phone showed it was connected to network but in fact no-one could reach me the whole day.

Only when I was doing internet banking and expecting a SMS I saw something was up because the SMS was not coming through. I switched phone off and back on and it started working again. Then the list of missed calls also came through via SMS.

So I have same question, is it the device or network?
