thanx for the replies

i have kinda narrowed it down...according to price range...what do you guys think and would you suggest something else?

Nikon Coolpix S700 - R2495 (digital experience)
Sony W130 - R1995 (ORMS and sacamera)
Canon ixus 860IS - R2195 (digital Experience)

@dj_jyno would you rather suggest the 590 over 860?

@mercurial thanx, i have mailed them, awaiting reply, will post their feedback

If you want something really slim, go for the 860IS. Otherwise rather go for the A590IS. You can buy additional lenses that clip over the current lens (if you need telephoto, perhaps). Ultimately the decision lies with you, so I'd suggest you look at both and decide which one you prefer.

Nothing wrong with either of those two.

What ever you buy make sure it can run on normal AA batteries (you never know when you might run out of juice) and also make sure it uses STANDARD memory formats like SD or CF. Stay away from proprietaty crap like MemoryStick (Sony) and xD (Fuji/Olympus).

The A590is is discontinued, and Sony is launching some new W series units soon. The newer Fuji cam's can use both SD and XD on certain models.

If you wanted to spend a bit more and get more zoom the SX110is but there is a new SX200is range coming out from Canon and they have some super specs!

Kodak is also a very good option, I switched to Kodak from Canon a while back and I am very happy.

I've been addicted to Canon since the Powershot A410. I'd recommend u the newer A470. Around R1500, good for the price and not too expensive should it get old..

I have bought both the A460 and later on A470 and they are pretty sweet for entry level. What I love about the A460 is the 4x zoom but even the 3.4x time in the A470 is no issue. After all, since I started using IS cameras I found anything more than 3x is asking for trouble if there is not enough light.

These days however I am a Kodak man and I can really recommend them when it comes to bang for your buck.
