Hi guys,

Ive been in photography for +- 2 years know
I own a nikon d5100 with 50mm f1.8G and a 16-85mm F3.5-5 nikkor lenses.

I was wondering if I should get an upgrade on my body to a D7100. the full frames is still to expensive
Or the new Tamron 24-70f2.8 VC lens and safe up untill i have enough to get a full frame camera.
Any other lens suggestions

I do studio shoots, outdoor. Parties, Only a few Weddings.

I would personally invest in a lens

Maybe something a little longer than the 16-85 you currently have. Sigmas 24-104 perhaps. Do you have a decent flash?

I went to the photography shop yesterday and was told the same thing.
Did some test shots with the Tamron and sharpness on the lens was muct better then the 16-85mm.
Will look into it more. The nikkor 24-70mm is about R20000. yoh not in my budget

I do own a Sigma 70-300mm Macro lens also. Not a bad lens But I use it for Macro most of the time.
I use off camera flash.
A Nissin Di700 and a Yongnuo 465 Flash

Apologies for hijacking thread.

I have the following options for my wife's Nikon D3000.

- Tamron 70-300 VC USD (R4,5k - new)
- Nikon 70-300 VR (R3k - secondhand on bob)

I am sort of on the fence now.

Any suggestions / comments?

Go through your existing photos and see what focal lengths you used most (you can automate this to just get the bulk statistics).

You can also look at your existing photos to see which of your favourite shots would have been improved by a wider or narrower field of view than what you had available. This will help you to decide if the 24-70 mm range is going to work for you ...

Some alternative zoom lenses:
Sigma 18-35 mm f/1.8
Sigma 17-50 mm f/2.8
Sigma 50-150 mm f/2.8 (this is roughly the crop-sensor equivalent of the 70-200 mm)

Id recommend lens also, used the tamron 24-70 a few times on Canon, great lens.

I have the 24-70 f/2.8 - lovely image quality, I just wish mine didn't break so often. I got tired of fixing it (intermittent fault most recently) that I supplemented it with canon's 24-105.
