I wandered into Digital Eye in Hyde Park shopping centre (Jo'burg) and without even speaking a word had both shop assistants' attention. I was really just looking for a nice bag, and didn't like anything they had in the shop, but the one (Jacqui) nevertheless didn't lose interest, and kept asking me what I do, what I shoot, have I tried this, have I looked at that, etc. I ended up trying out most of their lenses, just for fun, and she patiently answered all my (sometimes dumb) questions. She was knowledgeable and interested.

I didn't pay much attention to their prices (although it didn't jump out at me as excessive) but if I had the money on me I would easily have bought at least one lens :)

Sounds cool man. It's really nice to get good service, once you have some cash, go support them ;)

It wouldnt if you were mentally dividing everything by 16. ;)

One of our local shops just told me that canon is sending out a new price list this week and not to expect a decrease either. :o

Don't be surprised, most of the prices I looked at were still shocking. I saw a 70-200 f/4L in a shop in the V&A waterfront. Tried it out, got one very nice candid in the process. Price was R42,000...

Must have been the IS version?

Yeah it was, but still, how do they get from £729.00 (R1,776.19) to £2600(R42,000)?

EDIT: I think it was really R46,000 but let's give them the benefit of the doubt...

That is a total ripoff for the F4. You can get it for R11000 here

The F2.8 is only R19400

I suggest you try this guy out if you need any photographic equipment, good prices and *excellent* advice.

Pretty reasonable for SA but still nearly double what I paid for my non-IS EF 70-200mm f/4.0L from B&H.

lol - your exchange rate maths seems to be as bad as mine is at times. :D

The waterfront has never been known for bargains.
