I am about to change from MTN LTE to Vodacom 5G at 50Mbps. I have had good solid connection from Afrihost/MTN for 2 years now. For 5G there are weasel words about the speed being dependent on many things so buyer beware.

What have people experienced?

Well you are only getting 50Mbps on that Vodacom deal so the bar isn't very high.
5G on MTN is great, no idea on Vodacom

I have one of the Cool Ideas Vodacom 5G packages and speeds are usually very good. Here are a few of the best examples !

If you enter your address on this Vodacom 5G coverage map you should get a better idea of what type of speeds you can expect.

If you have both 5G Mobile as well as 5G Home coverage your speeds should be good. I only have 5G Mobile coverage and I can reach download speeds in excess of 200Mbps !

Cool Ideas currently has a 50% off promotion on the ZTE G5TS for R750 if you sign up with them. That is a great price as I paid R1500 for mine a few months ago ! The router is unlocked and can also be used for 4/5G on MTN or Telkom if you want to switch in the future. They are also planning to launch some Telkom 5G packages quite soon.

Mornings are when you test for good speeds 05:00 or so.

Evening is when you suffer pain, LTE or 5G same difference.
