Can a TV be damaged by incorrect cable installation?

Hi Everyone

I've been in charge of getting our TVs moved to a different area of my university residence and I believe the installers we have been using are ripping us off.

We moved our whole DSTV installation to a different room and the installers ripped out all the cable, installed brand new ones and a new dish. They connected up our original TV just fine but I had donated my families old 42" plasma as a second TV and they installed it fine but it worked for about a minute before the picture disappeared. I could still access the menu etc. it was just the DSTV picture that we could not see.

The installers claimed that a TV that had been sitting for a while could cause it to blow the input panel when connected up again. It had only been sitting for about 2 months and I honestly thought they were talking nonsense but I accepted that it was damaged and needed to be fixed.

They eventually fixed it and we got it back about 2 weeks ago but for about a week now, it hasn't worked at all. Can't even access the on screen menu, there is zero picture.

I have a suspicion that their cable installation or something like that is causing this issue and I would like to know if that is possible before I call them again so I don't get fed some nonsense.

Any help would be appreciated.

Connect the decoder directly to the TV using RCA cables.

Connect a normal antenna and see if you pick up the SABC Channels.

Where are you located? Perhaps someone nearby can assist you.

I dont think its possible. What i do know is illegal dstv activations tend to die out after couple of weeks/days or so. If the tv can play a dvd or can be set on. Then somethin is a bit fishy. Good luck
