I'm debating which isp accounts to go for again, and just wondered why isp's can't offer us one combined account ?

e.g. 3 gig interntaional + 20 gig local @ R300 per month ?

the isp would provide "static routing" for local / int, and could provide us stats on usage of each, and we could top up local / or international when we need to ?

instead of us having to manage 2 accounts with Dual PPPoE connections etc ?

Why not just do it yourself with an IPCop or Linux firewall/router?
Then it doesn't matter how many PC's you connect and you can get some nice usage stats with things like ntop.

The dual PPPoE thing is rather unique and I don't think the ISPs are going to try to cater for a small handful of such users.

Dual PPPoE is something many people are indeed relying on in South Africa. Without two PPPoE id be dead lol

i don't really want to setup another box ( i connect from 2 places so would actually need 2 )

and right now i'm all Mac osx based , so i can't even make use of openbrowse as it's for windows only.

what i would like is to have one account with (for example) Webafrica, and have them bill me somehow for my local usage, and international usage serparately.

Imagine-IPS

3GB Unshaped + 30GB Local - R195

But will they route and audit the traffic properly?
If at the beginning of the month you download a 10 GB file from a local server will you still have your 3GB unshaped afterwards?

That is the big issue and the reason why people are setting up their own dual ISP and static routing setups.

Local counts through your international.:(

Scud technically it is possible, traffic gets marked as Local or International via a dscp marking in the packet. It is possible to collect these stats seperately by any ISP providing bandwidth over their own IPC. Good luck finding a ISP prepared to do it though!
