Can anyone comment on the Astraphobe DSL lightning protector ?

Don't like the idea of a device deciding when I can connect to the internet and when not.

Disconnects when storm are detected up to 40km away from you

From the comments.. Another valid point:
It seems to me that if there is an emergency during a storm and your phone is disconnected...that could be a problem and potential liability for the device.

Loool that would be funny, although I think it is legitimate?

Kalahari have them. And magazines (e.g. Popular Mechanics) have done reviews.

So yes, it looks as though it is legit

I've rather used two fiber converters to protect my network from ADSL lightning strikes. Found it to be the best fit and if it happens that the line gets hit sure i'll lose the router and one converter but I can handle that. Peace of mind as i don't really have to disconnect the router every time there is rain and even if a storm starts while i'm away from home the worst i'd come to is a fried router & converter. Worse could happen

Hi Folks, I was notified of this thread by a friend. I am from Jacstech the manufacturer of the Astraphobe. Its not an April fools joke:)

Thor & rrh, it does not disconnect you when 40km away, you can choose the distance yourself. In an urban area 5km is fine. You can also leave an old phone plugged in upstream of the Astraphobe that will remain online.
