Can anyone recommend a good slide scanner?

I need to buy an all-round scanner which will also scan slides/transparencies, i.e. it needs to have a film holder, while also being usable for normal scans maximum A4 size. I'm not looking for top-of-the-range. Anyone able to recommend an affordable unit?

Might there even be a multifunction unit that will handle slides?

I use the Canon 8000F,

Think its been replaced now with the 8800F

For lower budget, the 4400F also seems pretty good

Really not bad at all. Though scanning at full size on film does take a while.

Normal photo's are pretty easy as it can work out the frame edges and splits the photo's. Astro-photography using slide film though does take a long time as you have to scan everything in as one HUGE (about 500megs) file and then manually split the frames apart.
