Hi Guys

Been reading and following the FTA etc satellite thing for a few months now. Haven't bought any FTA equipment as yet but I have been using my DSTV decoder, well as much as is allowed, to pickup some FTA channels.

Well the sad thing is that on the KU band for intelsat 7/10 things are pretty bleak when it comes to FTA. I would reckon BTV and France 24 is about the best of the of the bunch.

I guess it goes without saying that DSTVs main bouquet has become exorbitantly priced and is totally beyond most peoples affordability nowadays. So that brings me to my main questions.. I have been scouring Lyngsat and Satbeams to see if I can find any pay channels that offer F1/EPL via Intelsat 7/10 either on C band/Ku Band. So I was just wondering whether any of you guys have successfully done this and if it is at all possible. I have seen TenSports India on the C band and their subs are not bad at all - so is it possible to pay them for a sub and then receive via C band (with a C band sat and would prob need a Irdeto2 C band decoder right?) here into SA?

I'm also open to any suggestions of usage via other Sats like Sirius 4. I've tried looking at all the sats whose footprint SA falls under so I can narrow down my search..so yeah any help would be nice..I'm so hoping that I might be able to do this and it doesn't end up fruitless as I really miss F1 and EPL :(

You want a cost effective way of getting the F1 and the EPL in South Africa?

Easy answer, pay Multichoice for the premium subscription of Dstv.

I was paying them for the premium sub - for the last 7 years I have been paying them, no complaints! But they suck as the price has hiked just too much in the last few years! The sub is going up to nearly R600 and that is just not on! It is not cost effective by any means anymore! Multichoices offering are crap now and the sport is the only thing they have going for them! I'm just looking at possible alternatives - like everyone does when they're getting screwed over! I haven't broached the legality of the concept but right now I couldn't care less! We need okes to leave DSTV so that they realise they can't just screw us over for the next 10 generations! Before Afrihost pulled the R29/gb trick and Mweb pulled the uncapped trick everyone just accepted R60 or more per GB but once they released those offerings and large numbers switched over in a short space - many players in the market HAD to follow suite! I just want the same thing to happen with DSTV, they can't carry on increasing the price and give us the same garbage..

OR
anyone know where one can stream F1 and other sports in HD?
i have only been able to find SD or lower quality streams.

Hey beetman, what speed line are you on? Also what level of streams are you using on that line? I'm on 384k so I'm restricted to using around 300k and under streams which is a bit small on my screen but then I use a projector to blow it up onto my wall :) Just wondering what the streams are like on a faster line.

Anyway in the mean time I'm working on the alternate pay sub thing..hehe..not looking to bright but hey I'm giving it a shot :)

Fish, spare yourself. Its gonna hurt seeing United take the EPL, and Alonso the WDC ;) How, Prini never choon you!

Haha screw you bro! Arsenal gonna win the EPL this year because Chelsea going to beat your team at Trafford like how we destroyed yol at the bridge ;) and Vettel and Hamilton are odds on to show Alonso the way again!

Actually I am finding out some very interesting stuff - its tentative but at least some way encouraging :)

Please share once you have more info. Would rather upgrade to a 4mb telkom line than continue to pay DSTV premium prices.

Yes I will certainly let people know if I find something that will be worth our time! Of course it will be sort of underground, not illegal per se but just something we'd have to be cautious about for fear of the MC giant being awakened :)

I couldnt agree with you more. I am currently doing the upgrade downgrade thing for the sport that I want to watch. I never watch the other channels as I download the content that I do want to watch. Time for DSTV to have a sport only bouquet!!

footballstreaming.info normally has streams of all football games going on including all sorts of arbitrary leagues. Best thing is that its free with no sign up. If you have uncapped internet you're set!

To answer you question. YES you can. Just make sure that you are covered by the satilite annd that you have the correct decoder and smartcard.

So, enlighten us... Which service, that broadcasts F1 and Premier League, covers our country?

This is what I have found out thus far:

I want mainly the live sports and am not too concerned about the other channels as I would think that they'd mostly be in foreign languages (I'm not sure what other languages they possibly offer on broadcast as that info seems rather hard to find without calling them). Basically I narrowed down the sats under whose footprint I fall (Durban, you can check this at www.dishpointer.com) and was checking the pay subs offered on lyngsat. So far I have checked out the ffg:

Canal + Reunion (Eutelsat W2M) - Sub is too expensive for the one inclusive of sports bouquet - 33 euros

Zap Angola (Eutelsat W7) - 5800 akr which is about R430

Parabole Maurice - which was the most promising of the lot but they recently dropped SS 3 which really sucks!! Even according to a guy on satellite.co.uk they have an agent for it in JHB. Anyway it works out to 950 mauritian rupees for the full bouquet which is around R226.

Then there's Tensports India of Taj TVs broadcast - they broadcast off C band on IS 7/10 - no epl and F1 unfortunately but at least some live sports - around 65 indian rupees for the whole package which works out to about R10 p/m.

Now of course I'm not sure what each of these providers policies are wrt selling smart cards to foreigners but I assume that some of them might be willing to do so. In addition you would have to get a decoder capable of decrypting their particular signal, I believe something like a dreambox would be best here as it does multiple types of decryption. Right now nothing is looking promising, Parabole maurice might have been worth it but they recently dropped SS3 and I'm not sure if Eurosport show F1 races. From what I can gather on their programme guide, it seems like they show quali but not the race live. If anyone here understands french could they possibly mail these guys and ask them about a local agent, availability in SA, languages available for viewing, as well as F1 and EPL? Its worth shot at least.

However it seems on the whole we're screwed to a certain extent - we just got to hope that more african countries within our sat footprint start getting good sat Pay tv some time soon

There is no F1 on Eurosport or AB Moteurs.

dstv essentially has the rights for southern africa sewn up.

Doubt you will receive ADMC signals here.
