I would like to know if i can program my pc to reconnect every time the 3G connection is lost and to keep trying, if possible, till it connects
I would like to know if this is possible?
And how would one do it?
Thank you

Have a look at the properties for that specific connection. There's an 'Options' tab, look in there and check the box for 'Redial if line is dropped'. This is for XP, not sure of Vista/7

Yes but 99.9% of the time the connection is not dropped, the line is connected but there is absolutely no throughput meaning the connection has died. This requires a manual disconnect and reconnect. I am now keeping a log of all my IP's the date and time connected, the date and time it died .... have been doing this for 3 days and the list is already 48 lines long. Am feeding this info back to the Vodacom engineers and hopefully it all gets fixed soon and I never have to publish this info. As for your original question I am sure there must be utilities out there which will monitor your connection by means of pinging something and could possible disconnect and reconnect but you'll have to search to find one.

Maybe it's because of a lack of activity? Try open a cmd window and have a continuous ping (-t) running. Just drop the packet size so you don't waste alot of bandwidth. See if it helps...Cheers

No disrespect Mike but I've been in networking well over 26 years :D I can ping however constantly I like and connections keep dying. It's a major Vodacom problem in this network segment I am on and started ever since they turned on 14.4 which they have subsequently turned off because it was even worse with about 100 disconnects a day at that point. Now I'm down to about 10-20 disconnect/reconnects a day which is still no good, prior to the implementation of 14.4 I could connect and stay connected for 48-72 hours at a time and it's pretty much been that way for 4 years.

I am also in Magalies having the same problem, please Vodacom, its not just one or two of us in the area, its everyone using Vodacom in Magalies!

I wrote a little script using rasdial to do something like this. My connection would choke in Manila, so every hour I would have a script that disconnects and reconnects.

That's all well and good but it's treating the symptom and not fixing the problem.

Yeah, if I could fix my mobile providers network I would :D As with the common cold, perhaps you cant fix all problems and only fix the symptoms.

What modem are you using?
I had the same problem, except each time I had to pull the modem out and put back.

I found that my usb port voltage was causing this, or something to that effect. Adding a usb extension cable solved the problem.

You have probably tried this (Its what I would have tried first anyway) but how about setting your network connection to use 2G/Edge/GPRS or something like that. Not sure if that would have much of an effect on it but its worth a try.

If the connection doesn't actually drop (but no data is being transferred) and its happening to more than one person in the same area it has to be network related. I hate to say this but your only chance seems to be either to bite the bullet and escalate it though Vodacom's ranks or to see if you can get a better alternative from another ISP.

Good luck!

This is the thread where I worked on the batch script to dial, then after XYZ time, quickly and reconnect the line:

It only as someone mentioned deals with the symptoms of the problem, but when you want to download a lot, this is your only bet.

I remember I had this problem, because I was on uncapped 3G in Manila, and the line would occasionally go dead.
