Can I verify a lawyer

So I'm selling my apartment in another city and I was introduced to an estate agent via a family member.

The agent has found a buyer and recommended a lawyer who I've spoken to on a few occasions.

It's now time to send over title deeds and I'm just a bit concerned that there's a possibility I could be taken for a ride. Scammed. Not get my money.

Is there any way to verify a lawyer other than calling his office or googling him?

Write or call the law society of your province, they'll be able to tell you if he's a real one.

Otherwise, get a lawyer on your side.
 
So why dont you approach a lawyer this side to set up everything for you or to conclude the transaction on your behalf spend a bit more money but get money after all, just make things easier although a bit more complicated, but will give you peace of mind. Lawyers normally have branches or relationships/alliances with other firms in other provinces so it will take the stress out of the sale
 
The seller can choose the conveyancing attorney. Get your own. Problem solved.

I only thought about that yesterday. Getting a lawyer here. The problem is hes already drawn up paperwork and I don't know if its too late to change lawyers now.
Ill call the law society (if thats a thing).

It shouldn't be a problem to change, the seller can keep this one and you take yours.

Thanks for your replies.

Do you have any idea how the process takes? He says it will take a few weeks to get the rates statement and then a couple more weeks after that to transfer etc.

Could you outline the steps for me so I know what to expect and look out for?

Unfortunately, I have no idea ! I can only help on the lawyer part :)
