I want to get into web development, UI / UX design.. The current goal is to get a BSc Computing qualification from UNISA, as it is currently the cheapest option and will allow me to study and work, and to also do online courses in UI / UX design to gain skills in that area.

I would eventually like to work abroad however I want to know if my qualification and chosen career path will land me a job in countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, etc

Doing an honours is your best bet. Some countries don’t recognize a 3 year degree as a degree, but then some do, and some recognize it as a lesser qualification.

Typically, it depends on what the norm is in the country (eg, in the US, a bachelors degree is 4 years). Then there are some subtleties like the English degree being 3 years, but after 13 years of school, so one really needs a 4th year for equivalence, but it won’t be considered “not a degree”, since Scotland has 12+3+1 years like SA, where the last year is honours.

So, tl;dr, it depends on the country, and an honours degree is the safe bet.

I should add that if you want to get work internationally, you may want to consider something rarer than web dev/UI/UX design. There’s plenty of work for this of course, but it’s not likely to be something you would get sponsored for, or a company would wait for you to immigrate for. If you stick with it, your best bet would be a country where you qualify for a work visa with no sponsorship.

It's not what you have, it's what you can do.

For many companies and many countries, what qualifications you have are critical for getting interviews and obtaining work visas.

And here I am studying informatics because it will be easier to for me to manage(time and affordability) to do an honors.
