Can MTN legally do this?

Effectively if you on contract they cannot until the contract is complete.

MTN are criminals and I will never do business with them again. They feel fvckall for you ore ethics.
 
I am on a month to month with them. This price plan no longer exists. I paid up in 2020 and have on month to month since then because I get 350 mtn to mtn, 350 mtn to others (700 i total), 5 gb anytime data. I enjoyed the minutes hence I didn't cancel. Now the option they want to move me to only gives me 300 minutes in total
I really don't care about the data because wifi etc.

Because you are out of contract and on month to month, they can do what they are doing and it's pretty standard. I suggest you seek out a new package to sign up for or switch your sim to prepaid @ 79c per minute and then add a data bundle.
