The new iPhones with USB-C can use ethernet via an adapter. I'm unsure if there was an ethernet adapter for the lightning port.

I doubt a phone can receive internet via a cable but it can send out. AKA USB tethering.
OP wants the PC to send internet to the phone via able, afaik, not possible only way is a wifi hotspot on the PC.
I had a customer who blamed the miniscule signals from wireless alarm devices (transmitting at 1/40th of a watt) for her kids poor school performance

Do you have a microwave in your home? Did you know that most commercial microwave ovens operate on 2.45Ghz? Which is close to the WiFi 2.4Ghz band? Bluetooth operates in the 2.402Ghz-2.480Ghz, which means they overlap sometimes, which is why microwave ovens can sometimes interfere with Wifi and Bluetooth signals.
So everytime you turn on your microwave you are in effect creating a mini WiFi network.
Usually the real tinfoil hat brigade people say they don't own a microwave.
Then I say to them how do they watch tv? Or listen to the radio? Or turn on a light? The power cables in your house operate at 50Hertz usually.
You are surrounded by electromagnetic radiation. Its is near impossible to get away from it.
If you want the cloesest thing to no electromagnetic radiation go to EMF free zone around the SALT telescope near Sutherland.
You will freeze to death during winter though.

This reminds me of the thread to build a budget gaming device but it cost more than buying an Xbox or PlayStation and won't even play the latest games on lowest settings.
I think it is cool as an experiment though if you have money to throw away and just for fun.
