Can my line handle vdsl?

Hi,

My current values, using adsl

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Link Rate 10239 Kbps 1021 Kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 7.5 dB
Noise Margin 11.6 dB 12.1 dB

My current router is not vdsl capable, so I would like to know what speeds I could get before I purchase.

I am about 400m from the exchange.

Yeah should be able to handle 40Mbps easy if not full very close to full 40Mbps. Your line stats will also improve when you get switched to a VDSL profile.

Which ISP?

Perhaps you in same situation.
ISP say no, Telkom say yes, line stats and "coverage map" say yes.
Move/ get_line with Telkom. A pain.

Axxess, yes isp says no, Telkom site says yes, up to 40mbs, Telkom rep not too sure. I don't want to buy a new router and then have no benefit. Odd how I cannot get a definite answer.

I found the adsl checker to be pretty accurate in my testing in my area. It clearly stated the max speeds. I know where the exchange is but my address was max 20Mbps because the DP was outside the 850m radius for 40Mbps allowance. Once I clicked on a address that was in the same street as the exchange it changed to 40Mbps.

So if the checker says 40Mbps then it means you are connected to a ISAM or something similar that can handle VDSL and you should be able to upgrade. Force axxess to place the order for a upgrade.

If you upgrade to 40Mbps and you adsl line goes down then you know they changed you to VDSL and then you can get a VDSL router. Slight inconvenience but at least you know you are on VDSL.
