thanks

well your attainable is over 10meg... realistically it will probably settle on about 8-9Mbps.

My stats show the following:

Downstream Upstream
Current Rate(Kbps) 4096 512
Max Rate(Kbps) 9300 724
Noise Margin(dB) 13.3 9
Attenuation(dB) 26 13.5
Output Power(dBm) 7.5 12

Will it be worthwhile going for 10mb?

No, you'll only be stable at 8 or so

He is still running on G.dmt hence the 512k upload speed. Stats will be much better if switched to adsl2+

With Attenuation of 26dB he should be able to get around 16 or 17Mbps max download speed. Easy 10Mbps without any problems

@OP Yeah you have too much noise on your line. You will most likely get 8-9Mbps then SNR will be 6dB. You could upgrade and log a fault to see if they can change the line or connections to get better stats otherwise you will be stuck with that speed.

I'm running 10Mbps stable 38dB attenuation and 11dB SNR so you are only slightly further from the dslam than me so not sure why your SNR is already so low only on 4Mbps. That said could be old copper lines or maybe joints that could be fixed if not then you out of luck.

I've tried setting the router on adsl2+ last night. I waited a while but the green light kept on blinking and didn't sync. I am wondering if I upgrade to 10 mb if Telkom will change my profile at the exchange.

They will change your port if the dslam supports it. Would take a couple of days though.
