Hi Guys/Girls.

I have just installed a 5100 router in a site in Durban. (I am from Cape Town)

My problem is that I can ping (From a remote site) my own ADSL IP, automatically assigned by Telkom (I use the original WHITE Marconi 4port Router) but not the new Durban (Which is the black 5100 telkom 4port router) IP, assigned by Telkom.

Is there something I need to Disable/Enable on the 5100 to enable me to ping it?

The one thing that had me stummped for 2 days is I use a server (XP) to connect and act as a proxy. By running the default state (With a fixed IP on the lan/router) I could not see the router to connect to the Internet. After reading the entire manual, I figured you have to run in BRIDGED mode (Not ROUTER mode) to make a BROADBAND connection.

Cheers and I hope you can help

So the one you can't ping is the one in bridge mode? If that's the case then it's nothing to do with the router (it's not working as a router, you're using it like any other modem). The XP firewall or other software firewall is blocking the ping.

It would be better to use it in router mode, and block all outgoing connections besides from the proxy pc's ip in the router's firewall setup. That way the clients can't connect directly by simply switching off their browser's proxy setting.

Or I might have totally misunderstood you, in which case you are free to disregard the above ;)

Thanx for the answer, DaBean, but I do have a PROXY SERVER sitting in the LAN, that is why I run in BRIDGING MODE.

The problem is that (With the Billion 5100) set in either BRIDGE/ROUTE mode, I can not PING the public ip assigned by TELKOM.

I believe this could be one of 3 things:
1. TELKOM is stopping return traffic.
2. The ROUTER is stopping return traffic.
3. The PROXY is stopping return traffic.

I have spoken to BILLION and they told me "Try HALF-BRIDGE-MODE". This also does not work...

Cheers

You don't need to run BRIDGING MODE if you have a PROXY SERVER.

1. Telkom doesn't stop pings as far as I've seen.
2. There IS NO ROUTER (it's in BRIDGING MODE remember?)
3. Guess that's what you're left with then.

Tried in ROUTER/BRIDGING (and 1/2 Bridging) mode with no luck. COULD THIS BE A SAIX problem?

cheers cyber7
