Hi

I've recently got ADSL and a 4-port Marconi router (I know, I know, very crappy ), but every day, my internet browsing (sometimes mirc or other internet apps) stops working, so I restart my PC and it works again, but this is annoying !

I initially tried just turning my router off and then on again or doing ipconfig /renew, but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a way I can do this without having to reboot my PC ? It's really annoying having to reboot my PC every morning just to get my internet working.

Is there a setting I can change in the routers settings or something on my PC ?

Thanks

you do get automatically disconnected every 24 hours and your ip address changes.I don't know if this could be the problem.
Im using a netgear modem, it happens to me as well but not like everyday, I just reboot my modem/router and it works again.
is there a setting on your router that allows you to automatically connect after a disconnect?

err...dunno, i'll take a look when i get home...I'm using the new Marconi ADSL 5100 4-port routers.

im not sure of the settings on that router.
also just check to see that your firewall is not blocking any traffic. i doubt that would be the problem, but its better to just check before doing anything else.
good luck man!

Nothing disconnects, my router still stays connected and everything is fine, it's just that if I type www.google.com or anyting, firefox or IE (or any internet APP) just doesn't connect...

check to see your firewall ain't blocking any traffic.

lord spacey - when this happens, are you off the net ?
If you ping saix.co.za using it's IP Address by typing
ping 196.25.1.200
in a command prompt [MS DOS], does the ping work?

I'm trying to establish if your connection to the internet is gone, or if it's just the Domain Name Server lookup that's failing. Cos i'm pretty sure i've seen this problem elsewhere, caused by crap software that tries to do domain name cacheing to make your connection "faster", xcept that it crashes constantly.

no my internet is up (or at least i think it is), ping addresses are fine (i think) and it probably Domain Name Server lookup failing. I've seen people talkin about flushing DNS cache, how do i do this ? as this may help !

go to dos and type the following

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

Sounds like a faulty NIC (network card) - I cannot imagine that the PC rebooting would affect the router in any way. However, if the NIC is faulty, a reboot would sort that out for a while.

I highly doubt it's my NIC as I've gone to LANS and have stayed connected for days without having to reboot.
