Telkom responds

Lulu Letlape, Telkom group executive of corporate communications, responds that Telkom never sold a 30GB account.

“Wholesalers purchase a 3GB account and then sell it as a 30GB account and end-users are put under the impression that they are buying 30GB accounts.

What the hell does this mean? e.g. Surely if the international drops after say 5gig after thinking I have 30 gig then I would be aware that there is a problem.

If I obtain 30gig then I'm not being conned by the ISP. If the ISP is scr%wig Telkom then great!

The ISP's self authenticate and then keep reporting back to telkom that the user hasnt capped, when u hit 30 gigs the isp reports it back to telkom and ure capped.

In otherwords the ISP's con telkom, btw this is one of the reasons for pay per gig

Screwing telkom is so great infact that we now have a "hard" cap. They arent going to sit around and let them selves be abused, they are a business(crappy one) after all...The saix resllers that exploted a flaw in the SAIX system didnt do it to be nice they did it for market share and money. The ISP industry knew this practise would be stopped from day 1 and now it has been...their heart might have been in the correct place but their implementation sucked and now we are left picking up the pieces...Pehaps theses 30gig SAIX ISPs arent the champions everyone thought they were??

Thanks KinsZA. NOW I understand.

Don't answer the question but thinks

"why didn't the ISP's offer unlimited access"

Probably because Telkom would blow a fuse WHEN THEY GOT THE REAL BILL Oh lovely thought stop stop it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Thank you for the response.

The only worrying thing is the fact that ISP's selling 30gig accounts for R300-R500 , still pay R160 ex vat for wholesale cost of 3gig.

I dont see any good will in this, they simply making more profit by selling the same cheap product at a higher cap.

Good will wouldnt have been marking up the cap and profit margin.

They did ... the guys who started the whole self-authentication loophole, allyoucaneat, initially offered uncapped, but once SAIX caught wind of it, they settled with the 'uncapped' ISPs that they would turn a blind eye till 30Gigs ... so they all changed their offerings to 30Gigs.
