Can you do these tasks on my site?

  • Confusing about WHY one would want to use it

TLDR: I need some usability testing of my updated website and I'd like some constructive opinions on any rough edges in the experience.

It's been a few months since I asked for advice on my site, and have put a lot more effort into the usability (streamlining the user experience for each key task).

If you've got time, can you please visit www.overhere.co.za and see what problems you run into when doing these four key tasks, and let me know?

1) Share your location
2) Get directions to drive/walk to a mapcode
3) See a mapcode on a map
4) Read more info about mapcodes

This clickable on the landing page...

I kind of expected it to show a map with my mapcode overlayed or something. As a way to visualize the idea and let me see how accurate it is. But instead it links to a 'share' page before I even know it's the correct address being represented by the mapcode.

The 'How does it Work' page is too much tl;dr for something that could be displayed graphically or with a very simple animation. Can probably get this done quite cheap on Fiverr or similar.

Feels like the site could do a bit more to get me interested.

Thanks for that feedback! It does show a map though. Before your mapcode was generated, it showed you a map and you had to click on "Confirm location" after dragging the marker where you want it. Even after doing that, you can click on the "fine tune on map" button to see the map and marker position again. Would you like to see another static map on the confirmation screen just with your mapcode overlaid on a marker? I could add that.

Here you go @saor rather than a static mapcode I added live mapcode generation to the marker infowindow as you drag it. You still click on 'Confirm location' to get all the other content options (quick share links etc), but at least now you get a preview of your mapcode right on the map. Is this better for you?

I go to the site

It tells me my mapcode is:

Which is located

But clearly, I'm not...
 
On mobile, when on the about page, the home hamburger menu item doesn’t work

Lol, I ask for people to test four simple tasks, and you go into a minor off-topic issue? :P Any feedback on the four actual tasks?

I just tested the mobile menu on my phone, works fine. I have experienced that thing of the menu sometimes stopping responding, but if you just click on the homepage and then navigate from there, it refreshes and works again. It's some kind of intermittent glitch, but generally works.
 
This page is super annoying. There is no way to just then take me to the map in an approximate position and let me refine it

Nope, it is a consistently reproducible
 
I'm on mobile and on the" Find me" screen.
.I can't select the map to fine tune my position because it keeps on automatically scrolling up.

Android using Chrome


Edit. Ok I clicked on the maximise button and can now select the map and the icon , but when I drag it it snaps back to its original location

Ok so I've managed to fix that :) You can try it again ... it's because of that infowindow I added for Saor's request, the map was automatically scrolling up to include the latest infowindow every time the map settled. I've canned the infowindow altogether so now the view is stable. Better?

Yeah sorry, fixed as described above. Thanks for flagging it, Google Maps has some default behaviour in it that can create some surprises like this.

I've been trying to "idiot proof" the map: a major issue people have with Google's location pins via WhatsApp is they don't wait long enough for sufficient accuracy, so they share pins that actually lead to wildly incorrect locations. By only refreshing once accuracy is 'sufficient' (within 6m), you avoid that issue. If you're not standing outside at the time, like the pop-up alert warns you at the start, you're not going to get a sufficiently accurate GPS fix. I guess I could code in a workaround like adding a "Skip to map" button, and that would help you?

I think on of the best features of the WhatsApp share location is that it shows where you are and then gets more accurate as you wait. Or you can just quickly adjust it to exactly where you are.
