Can you drive a car while waiting for engine clearance?

We are the proud owners of our first and last Ford.

About 3 weeks ago the car overheated. After some back and forth we found out that the head gasket failed due to a design flaw and the engine would need be replaced. Fortunately we still had a few months of warranty left so no cost to us.

The dealership tells me the new engine does not come with an engine number. The process is thus that the vehicle has to be taken for clearance after which an engine number will be issued that needs to be stamped onto the engine.

The work was completed almost a week ago and the vehicle has gone for clearance, we are now waiting for the number.

Can I drive the vehicle while we wait for the number?

Of course!

Also ... off course!

(When a cop tries to pull you over, go off-road immediately. That way, they are powerless because it is outside their jurisdiction.)

You might get into trouble with your insurance in the event of an accident before the engine clearance is sorted.

Engine clearance might not take a few days. Has the new engine been datadot already? Just this will add about a week or 2 to your waiting time.
 
Lol when they replaced the engine on my 2.0 Fiesta ST it didn't even occur to me about this. Or I can't recall. Was 16 yrs ago. Either way. Ford. Sis.
 
I dont know about anyone else but in 30 odd years of driving i have only ever had the engine number checked once and that was at a full on road block where the focus was on stolen cars...and that was also many many moons ago...
