I'm so jealous of you guys discussing all the cameras, dslr's and the lot. And me sit here, crying my heart out with my 720is.:sick::o:(:confused:

Nothing wrong with the 720 IS - :)
 
Yeah I know I know. But it's just not the same quality as a dslr. But for now it must do.
 
Good gracious. Now thats good, really good. How did you get such a noise free image, in such low light? I tried it a week ago, but it was so bad I deleted it straight away.

ps. I hope you sell your images for stock photography.

jacqvt, I'm not familiar with your camera, but on my CyberShot, in P mode I can select the ISO. I turn it down to 100, stick it on a tripod, enable the self-timer (so the vibrations from my finger squeezing the shutter settles before it takes the picture), aim and shoot. It will keep the shutter open for long enough, giving you fairly low noise. Take a look at this (clicking gives you the full 8MP version):



I did that with a little mini-tripod. I set it to 100 ISO, and the camera chose 1.6 seconds.
 
Yes I know about the noise, I even set my iso to 50, but still it's not very impressive. In daylight it's better.
 
Higher to where, 200? Maybe thats my problem. I had so much noise issues with my panasonic fz50, and now I'm allergic to higher iso. But I'll try that.
 
You'll just to try, every sensor is different. But ISO 50 is usually an "ISO expansion" mode - some electronic trickery to give the same effect but it always causes more noise.

I thought about this today today at my kid's school play - everyone around me with their nice little P&S and there I am with my dSLR and the not too inconspicuous white 70-200 lens - I'm just glad I forgot the lens hood in the car. :o
 
Yes thats the bad side of a dslr too, having to carry this big cam everywhere.
