Can you move to another exchange?

So since the 384kbps lines were upgraded to 1Mbps, my Office hour speeds have sucked. A lot.
From 4Mbps down to Sub 1Mbps speeds during office hours into the late evening.
Live close to a lot of businesses, so probably thinking it is some kind of congestion at the exchange?

Is it at all possible for them to move me to a different exchange? I don't care about a number change, don't use the phone much.

Dont think they can move you to a new exchange, the cabling goes to a specific exchange so if you want to move to another exchange new cables must be laid.

That is what I think, might be wrong though.

You are both wrong. I live in Bryanston where there are several exchanges. I recently had my 4Mbps ADSL installed and asked the Telkom guy what I could do to have my ADSL speeds upgraded to 10Mbps which I had gotten used to. He said no problem and picked up the phone and spoke to the Telkom NOC to arrange that my line be moved to the local IMAX box.

I waited a week and its now perfectly stable at 8Mbps (I live a bit too far for 10Mbps)

So phone Telkom now and demand IMAX (or even better MSAN!)

Just for information IMAX is a DSLAM not an exchange.
They can change your DSLAM in the exchange because normally there are a few DSLMs in an exchange.

Well, my exchange is apparently about 4km away in Lansdowne and I was told by the Telkom wireman that due to my location, I was stuck with what I have got. Obviously in certain areas this can be done, but it depends on how the infrastructure was set up

Will do. I think I'm going to request that they move my line to a different DSLAM or whatever. Cause at the moment, paying for 10Mbps, but exchange only supports up to 4Mbps and my line is running at 1Mbps during office hours....
Just not worth it at all. I hate Telkom so much.
