I have spent the past couple of days dabbling with Python, its a very elegant language, its a great place to start. PHP is good too, lots of documentation and tutorials.

Good luck! and keep us posted...

I think Java is the best place to start, mainly because of the documentation and tutorial (the official Sun tutorial). C# is also good or just go old school with C++.

I don't know much about procedural programming though. I don't even know the differences between C and C++

If .NET is an option I would go C# for a couple of reasons:
  1. Majority of .NET stuff on the web is in C#
  2. C style syntax, i.e. easy to move to other languages like Java or C++
  3. Better Mono support

^^ What he said.

Why do you no longer want to do networking? I am studying Networking,is this the wrong choice?

No career path is a wrong choice - my Dad is a truck driver and kicks a Doctors ass when it comes to salary.

If you love networking then do it. Endless opportunities. Same as software development.

At the end of the day, do what you love.
