My sister in law runs a clinic in Calgary that hired 3 SA doctors.

By the way doctors here make about $20-30,000.00 every two weeks. Thats TWENTY TO THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS not Rands EVERY TWO WEEKS! That is take home pay - AFTER TAX.

I know this for a FACT because she tells us the payroll numbers.

They don't leave just because of the crime in SA, doctors leave because they make WAY more money here.:)

The SA doctors I know who've gone to Canada are a mixed bag. Canada can have them.

I'm thinking more likely than not that is the rarest of exception rather than the rule.

I would guess as much as well...

because by my maths that makes these doctors earning anything been 480000$ and 720000$ a year after tax.. which given a bit of digging on Wiki should be roughly 25%...

Granted, this is Canadian Dollars and not USD.. so on the top end, that works out to roughly 580000USD after tax and 725000USD before tax...

I somehow think not.. at those kind of numbers, Canada could pick the cream of the crop of MOST countries doctors.

In the UK it's 7000 GBP per month with overtime, for a non-specialist.
In the US it starts at about $300.000 pa - depending on the speciality.

I do know that the UK and Canada has Dr shortages because they emigrate to the US.
SO I don't know about those figures. I know the salaries are very good, lots of time off,
overtime not included, and perks available (Car, house, relocation costs, extra pay for things such
as sick certificates etc).

Still considering these are pathetic earnings if you look at lawyer salaries. I have an uncle who pulls in $50.000 US per month
easy and that's in Europe where the salaries are lower.
