Today I cancelled my ADSL order. I've had ADSL since March 2004. I recently moved from Centurion to Randburg and ordered my line to be moved. It's now 40 days later and today Telkom informed me that they will only complete the ports installation end of December(like that's going to happen), after they told me that the ports are being installed 30 November. In other words I will only get my ADSL middle to end January next year. I told the guy that he must stop my order.

I feel sorry for the guys in smaller cities/towns as not even in our biggest city (JHB) can they install ADSL within 2months.

I hope the SNO gets here soon with some sort of alternative to Telkom.

I live in a small town, and the beginning of this year I applied for my adsl. They told me 4 weeks, so I waited, and on the exact day when it was to be installed, I started to casually phone them to remind them of the installation.

All went fine till they started side tracking the issue, tell one ignoramus of a girl told me that my exchange does not support adsl as yet. That was the last straw. I ended up talking to someone on the highest level where i at last found out, that they made a little mistake.

They send the router to pretoria instead of potchefstroom (easy mistake to make huh? I mean bith start with a p). Well I just told them that I dont care if they have to drive back to pretoria, and put it in in pitch dark, but i will have my adsl tonight, on the happy side, did get my adsl, on the sad side, did get my adsl

Why cancel the order? Why cut your nose to spite your face? Why not go to a higher authority within Telkom? Why listen to some baboon that answers the phone?

If there was another alternative, I can understand the cancellation, but by doing that you cut your nose to spite your face.

Call one of Telkom’s PRO (as in Public Relations Officer, not a pro cause there are no pro's at Telkom :) ) at Head Office, I did, and I got my ADSL installed within 15 days from date of application last December. Threaten to go to newspapers and radio talk shows if necessary, like I did and it worked for me, (get names, dates and times of the calls, ask if the conversation is being recorded).

The technician that came to do the installation told me that he had a friend that was waiting for over 2 months for installation, he even asked me how did I get it right within 15 days? I never got any letter welcoming me to ADSL like I have read in this forum, apparently people get those letters prior to installation, I never got the letter.

Fight for what’s right and always insist in speaking to someone with authority, not any so called supervisors or team leaders.

I recently moved from Zwartkop to Lyttelton Manor in Centurion. Also getting the Ports speech. but I think that is a telkom lie

When I applied (more than a month ago) I was told that they were having trouble with the adsl in that area. My friend live about a block away from my new home and he has frequent disconnects & high pings.

Maybee I should just set up a wifi connection to him and use his line coz we are going to wait for a long while for them to fix it and i really wanted to have adsl this vacation

I ordered my ADSl in July and it was installed end October - during the wait I also felt like cancelling but what HellTell said is true - The line is now installed (even had it upgraded) and I am happy - If I had cancelled, I would have had nothing now except dial up. (Oh yes - I was going to cancell that too - I would have had nothing)

Agreed! - I applied for adsl in a small town (mossel Bay) while I was overseas, they said it will take 3 weeks - at the end of 2 weeks My wife was at the local CSB daily - guess what?

Didnt get the welcoming letter but got my adsl exactly as promised.

The Cape Town Rondeobsch area seems to have far better installation times. I ordered ADSL last year and it took a week and a half from the order to me being able to browse the net. I did however phone almost every day to query the status of the order and to get them to bump up the priority!

I moved this month from one place in a suburb to the next about 800m. Knowing Telkom I placed the order ONE month before got an installation date on the 30th .... yup you guessed it still no line.....best of all everytime I call it gets "escalated".....

I ordered ADSL and i got it in a week, didnt even have to phone them once, they phoned me every time to REMIND ME of the installation. i wonder what i did right?

You must have ordered your installation using your myADSL nick. Telkom employees know where they will end up eventually and having made a spectre mad might make eternity worse for them.
