Hi Guys, I have just given notice to iBurst and the end of august I will no longer be on iBurst and would have hopefully moved to a DSL line.
However given the track record of Telkom I was wondering if the pre-paid option for iBurst would be available to be with my current usb modem or if I would have to purchase the pre-paid starter pack?
Also (and this is a FAO Rooigevaar) would it be at all possible to get any confirmation regarding my cancellation in the form of a document as I want to stop the debit order at the bank directly as I have unfortunatly seen too many cases where there are issues after cancellation.

Thank you.

I've found DSL to be less reliable than iBurst. Since joining MWEB in May I've had 3 major connection problems. One required a router reset (clear all memory and reboot), one required numerous port resets, telkom call out and who knows what else and cost me a week of no DSL, and one was broken DSLAM and although I called TELKOM and asked them about it they told me to speak to MWEB, it lasted about 24 hours. In my 2 years of iBurst I only remember two occasions when the tower was DOWN and one evening when I had authentication issues for an hour or so. The tower was down twice and it was back up in 3-4hours max.

iBurst for me has been more reliable than TELKOM ADSL.

I should also add that iBurst uses the SAIX backbone which means when SEACOM went down and numerous DSL ISPs went dead, dead slow (below dial up speed) or no international, iBurst was always working. I did not include this in the failures above.

If you are worried about loosing connectivity, iBurst is more economical than 3G especially if you know u have a good signal.

PeterCH,
Are you sure you are not working for iBurst? :)

You are more than welcome to join us back.

You know what, wait couple of weeks and if you decide to sign-up via iBurst website self activation (own modem) you will get nice benefits (can't reveal more...)

I begged iBurst to put my modem on prepaid but they didn't though.

Anyway, I'm now back on with Trade Page m2m IB low GB account as a backup against these stupid DSL failures.

Cool,

Would be very interesting to hear from you in the future comparisons between DSL and IB

Will be keeping my iBurst as a backup should there be any problems with the DSL line, my main reason for going DSL is latency.
How does the pre-paid work, if I purchase say the R500 3.1gb package does that mean it lasts till I have used up the total bandwidth or is it a case of I need to use the bandwidth within 30days?
I only average around 1.5gb per month mostly browsing and online game's so not really a heave user so even if I had to continue using iBurst for a while 3.1gb should see me trough almost 2 months.

Your unused bandwidth carries over for 12 months.

The internet just got a whole lot easier with iBurst Prepaid Internet. And here’s why:

No more bills and fixed term contracts
It’s easy: to install, to use and to recharge
You can control how much you spend, and recharge as often as you like
Unused bandwidth carries over for 12 months

Maybe it was just me but when that seacom cable went down my connection was pretty slow during that period which I thought was odd because like you said above, Iburst use SAIX.

I think the SAT-3 was strained by the use of MWEB, et al who bought temp capacity on it during the WC and SEACOM break. Still compared to SEACOM you had connectivity, people on SEACOM has nothing at all or little when their providers made alternative plans.
