Cancelling a Telkom ISP Account.

A client has a Telkom ISP account and has also bought an MWeb uncapped account.

He wants to cancel the Telkom account, but he has 2 .co.za websites hosted with telkom.

What are his alternatives?

The Coza accounts are administered by Telkom, but are registered in the client's name.

Afaik there is no connection between Telkom ISP and Telkom hosting services. If your client cancels his ISP account the hosting will continue as usual based on the original terms of the contract.

Yes, I am aware of how to change the domain details.

However, the simpler option is to allow them to continue the hosting.

They appear to have a number of hosting options.

Does anyone know if you can opt for one of these without having an ADSL account with them? I would presume that this would be possible, but Telkom being Telkom, I'd like to find out if anyone else has experience of this.

Should be no problem, on the other hand, Telkom hosting is hopelessly out of line with the rest of the market, both pricing and technical specs. You can look at moving the sites to http://www.hetzner.co.za/. If you register with them they will take care of the domain transfer and then you can upload the hosting content to their servers. Care should be taken if the sites make use of database content or special scripts.

It's mostly straight HTML, probably produced by some laaitjie on web-site-builder software.

I have tacked on some lightbox js for their galleries, but that's about it.

There is also the issue of existing telkom email addresses, though.

ISP email addys? Rather move to the company domain now than later, I've helped clients through the process a number of times and it's worth the effort.

Yes. Most of the stuff does come through the domain name addys, but it's always inevitable that they continue to use the ISP's addy.
