Thanks all for the advice.

I received an email today that my number has been converted to a prepaid successfully.

Which methods/steps did you follow?

I emailed [email protected]
and explained the situation that I was not able to go instore. They escalataed it and approved the cancellation.
I have also been out of contract for a while, so there were no extra charges.
