Hi

How do you cancel your contract if you cannot go into the store or phone them.
I have spoken to a consultant on their "live chat" twice, they only state email [email protected]
and then they stop responding.

I've emailed this address twice with no response.

Any other suggestions?

How many days since your 1st email request?

What worked for me (family friendly version):

1) Find as many e-mail addresses at Vodacom that have to do with contracts, cancellations, returns etc.
2) Mail them frequently. Don't go all "Rambo" like I do - spamming them might cause more harm than good.
3) Wait a day or two, before trying again.
4) Patience is key here, show your resolve.
5) Keep your phone on and be quick to answer - they will call at a silly time and might not let the phone ring too long.
6) Make peace with the fact that you might end up paying for this and next month.

Also - while doing all this request a "early contract termination quote" ie. the amount you need to pay to end your contract before the 24/36 month period. It will be a silly amount (if applicable) but this gives you a Ref. number you can use.

Lastly - Try to go to a shop. I found the manager of my local Telkom store to be a real gem, after stating my case and sympathising with her. The manager might (if in a good mood) even escalate the matter and get you a Ref. number.

2 days

That would cost me R20,000 for a plane ticket to go sort out a R300 contract...

As stated above, cant make or receive phone calls...only receive SMS at the moment
+27 and a skype line should get you there...

stop the debit order and watch how fast they will contact youI
I know that the cellphone providers report to the credit bereau I see my payment reflect every month on the app

Becareful this action doesnt backfire and they mess with your score

Last time I tried skype it was to SARS. Paid R500 and 10 minutes later skype cut out saying Not enough funds.
I didnt even make it through the waiting queue

Update:
I sent the email to a few address, one email address responded after a few days.
Hopefully its sorted, I'm waiting for feedback but the last mail mentioned that they are busy converting it.

Mail used: [email protected]

They make it hard to cancel so that they can keep taking your money. No idea why they can't do cancellations at a store and require us to call in. Imagine if you had to call in and wait in a queue to buy one of their contracts. Nobody ever would.

I have a data sim I haven't used for over a year. Paying R350 pm. Tried to cancel a few months ago and gave up. Now I'm just waiting for it to expire in April.

It will go on monthly and any discounts on it will be removed. Call 0821958 weekdays during office hours to cancel.

The facts always conveniently forgotten by all users of this forum are:
  1. Vodacom DOES NOT MONITOR this forum, having done so for many, many years in the past.
  2. Contracts in general as used by corporates like Vodacom, MTN etc. are ALWAYS IN WRITTING.
  3. It was the element of criminality/fraud that moved the termination of contracts away from Vodacom shops to the present requirements.
  4. It is also incumbent that ALL CONSUMERS apply "Cavit Emptor-LET THE BUYER BEWARE" at ALL TIMES BEFORE ENTERING INTO ANY CONTRACT- Failing to apply this is at your own peril - Do not cry in the media if you were stupid or a fool.
  5. The Vodacom Terms and Conditions - Contracts - Carefully read item 4-Duration and 16-Termination Url: https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/terms/contract-terms-and-conditions
The answer to this problem rests in using the WRITTEN Method rendering most effective result with proper punitive actions against Vodacom if they fail in their duties to your contract with them.
Herewith the best route to resolve ANY issues with Vodacom.
1) Compile a message clearly explaining this problem which should include past service references to [email protected] allow for ± 7 business day to responses ensuring you get a SR number.
2) If no response to your satisfaction after 7 business days. Compile a properly and clearly constructed message containing all SR in the title to [email protected]. We are sure that you should receive contact from advanced support with a resolution.
3) This has been most effective method to resolve ALL or ANY other issues in general

This worked for my neighbour who had her phone stolen in Checkers. Still took 4 months though from first email to the customer care email address

It took 5 reminders to get a reference number. Her contract had already expired and was running on month to month. Vodacom told her 4 different stories each time she enquired 1 - you can give 30 days notice, 2 - your contract was renewed for 2 years, 3 - You have no contract, 4 - Your debit order cannot summarily be cancelled without proper notice

Their shops in Constantia Village and Cavendish Square were useless. Staff totally disinterested and fobbed her off

The consumer protection act should step in on this issue.
Something like a specific form completed and sent to a dedicated email of the provider should suffice

Thanks all for the advice.

I received an email today that my number has been converted to a prepaid successfully.
