Why is it so damn difficult to cancel contracts? And why does Vodacom not offer this service in-store? Why do I have to phone the cancellation department, when it is all one blerry computer system, accessible from the shop?

You can fax a letter with your ID to 0115458006 requesting the number/s to be cancelled provided they are outside of their contract period with no outstanding amounts on the account.

Keep proof of your fax for future reference should it be needed.

The above number is for VSP clients ONLY! Should you be a Nashua or Autopage client, please contact them direclty.

That is why I said you must keep transmission report. Phone again in about two days time to see that they have loaded the cancellation. You should get a SMS when they load the cancellation notifying you of when the line will be deleted.

Hey OC - A quick question, does Cellucity fall into VSP or do I need to go to the store directly to cancel?

Alright, lets play this scenario, I've cancelled, I've phoned they tell me its not on the system, I tell them I have fax proof. What next?

You give them the number you faxed it from and the time the fax was transmitted. They then do a search on the q using those details. If the fax really is not there, then refax with the proof of the previous transmission.

What happens is when you fax, it goes into the electronic q. Someone then allocates your fax to a agent. It can happen that a fax is missed due to human error. Does not mean the fax is not there...they just need to search for it.

Seeing that the ECT act allows emails to be used as proof, why do I have to fax? Can't I accept the conditions of cancellation per email?

Cancellation requests must be faxed to our cancellations department. A letter (signed) and copy of ID is required for security purposes and to make sure the request is authentic. Please follow this procedure to ensure that your request is processed accurately. Should there be a cancellation fee due to the line not being outside of its contract period, then a cancellation quote will be sent to you which then must be signed by you and faxed back to them to acknowledge that you accept the charges.

I get the procedure... however, my fax machine and printer are currently in a container, on it's way to the UK. Therefore the question... if the ECT act allows emails to be proof of acceptance, why can't I email acceptance and proof of ID?

That I can not answer as I am not familiar with that act or in charge of Vodacom procedure and policy design. Should you wish, you can email it to me and I will fax it on your behalf. I will PM you my email address.

Ok, so
Day1
I must get in my car, drive off to some shop where I can fax from , send fax to vodacom, keep my proof.
Now I should be done, i've done my part its vodacoms step now to follow on.

Day 2
Sit and hope vodacom are doing their job

Day 3
Phone vodacom to check they have received my fax, well of course they did, faxes aren't like emails which go and sit on different servers at different times, get spam blocked, get deleted, etc etc, they are end to end transmissions , you can tell if a fax is unsuccessful.
So they say they have not received it.
Ok, I give them the number i fax it from and the time, lets get real here nobody is going to go look, they are just going to say "its not here".
So now i must get in my car drive off to the shop again, resend the fax, and send proof that i send it the first time.
I MUST FAX TO PROOVE I HAVE FAXED BEFORE??? Does this not seem totally illogical to you?
Anyway
Go home
Day 4
Pray to the gods that fax machines are all reliable
Day 5
Phone vodacom and ask them" hey buddy, u got my fax, u got my proof of previous fax"
And then when they say no.... do i start all over again?

This scenario is very unlikely. Contrary to what you guys might think...Vodacom does not use normal fax machines that spews out paper faxes all over the place. They use a system called RightFax and it is electronic. That is why they are able to search for a fax using the number u faxed from and the time.

mmhmm, and this is why i had to cancel my one contract like 8 times, and reverse like 12 debits and have how many pointless phone calls with operators asking them why its not cancelled, why i'm still being debited and when will they phone me back to sort out the mess

Your situation is not the norm. Was your service provider VSP? I have had one or two cases where I had to refax a cancellation letter from a client....but my general experience in helping a client cancel his line have been generally a smooth one.

yep, im vc/smartcom with all my contracts on vodacom.
I actually have one to cancel coming up soon, i'm going to retest this system.
