I have two ISPs. Not by choice but I would like to cancel my mweb one because I am spending R145/mo on 1 Gig of bandwidth with 2 e-mail addresses.

Here's my problem. One of those e-mail addresses is 10 years old (Yes, I have been an Mweb subscriber for 10 years now) and I have no idea what to do as most of the e-mails that go to that account are very important PLUS I don't know if I am in a 24-month contract or not because I have been a member for so long I can't remember signing anything or agreeing to a 24-month contract basis.

Does anybody have any ideas on what I could do because that R145 would be much more useful going to WebAfrica for a 30GB Local Only account.

I can answer one question - you're most likely on month to month, and can opt out any time.

As for the other, you'd just have to notify everyone (who matters) who has your mweb address of your new address. People are quite used to this nowadays. Many people change their email addresses all the time - move jobs, house, countries, etc...

Changing email addresses can be quite liberating - your spam count drops dramatically overnight. :)

The problem is that it's not my personal e-mail account... Belongs to another member of my family:D

It's actually my mom's email address. My dad uses his work e-mail address and I use the extra e-mail address for Facebook only. My other ISP (Cybersmart) has 2 e-mail addresses on it. My personal address and my company's address. My dad couldn't be bothered what happens as he has his work e-mail address and his MTN HSDPA USB modem which is paid for by his company anyway. If I wanted to remove the Mweb e-mail address and the whole Mwe account, I would have to sit with my mom and go through all her e-mails and ask her who's important and who's not.

Solution: Cancel Mweb. Use money for whatever instead. (R140 buys 2 gigs of Axxess prepaid ADSL). Get Gmail for yourself and your mother. (My mother is 71 and went through this transition without a problem). Notify everyone of new addresses. Enable pop for gmail so you both get your mail in your email client of choice (OE, outlook, Windows mail, whatever). Life will be schweeet...:)

Speak to Mweb about keeping the email address. I have clients who have cancelled with them, and now just pay a nominal fee to keep their email address alive.

I had no idea...

I don't know how to access local only from the Mweb account, do I have to cap it and then only do I get local only?

I've just cancelled with MWeb (moved to Nexus for semi-shaped), and was told that I could keep my mailbox for R36/month. Haven't seen an account yet, but that's the deal. It does avoid the hassle of migrating all those old sign-ups (or missing the once-a-year renewal notice that you forgot).
I'm now on Gmail, with the MWeb mail account added (see Settings, Accounts, Get mail from other accounts), and labelled, so I know to go fix the remaining senders.

Yes... that is exactly what I am doing. Dad pays for the account. (I have him set up on the Web Africa Work account).

I use the M-Web until it is capped and then have local only for the rest of the month! Don't cancel that account man! :D

Make sure you have all other pre-paid options, and automatic boosters turned off in your account settings.

There is something you should know about this account as well... :p Can't be shared on the thread though. :D

I'm sure I have asked Mweb about it before but I'm not sure

This doesn't make any sense. :D
