Yea, one doesn't know the long term effects. They take T-cells, modify them and re-insert them. They are modified to attack cancer cells and stay in your system for 14 years. It's probably the biggest breakthrough to date in cancer research. Very very very promising.

This is so inhumane I don't even want to think about it. There will still be money to be made out of T-cell modification. Just on a specialist level and medicine. I really do hope this doesn't get pushed under the carpet.

You know that whenever there is a "natural cure" or "natural treatment", the pharmaceutical companies will be the first to go and investigate it. They will then extract the active ingredients put it in a pill, and patent it, and make money off it.
You can go and search for the "natural" ingredients, I'll go to the pharmacy and buy the pill that was made from the active ingredient.

I watched Sky news this morning when they did a news bit on it. Very interesting. I didn't hear them specifically mention malignant melanoma, but the part about the new treatment is aimed at treating cancers that don't respond to chemo makes me hopeful...

I'm a Stage 3 Malignant Melanoma survivor. The thought of it coming back scares the shyte out of me. Radiation & Surgery is so destructive.

Chemo is pretty much carcinogenic on its own also is it not, so is the radiation therapy?

Yeah the active ingredient is also in a higher dosage than you'd get from the natural source making it even more effective.

As they say, when an alternative medicine is shown to work it stops being an alternative medicine and becomes MEDICINE!

Yes don't get me wrong. I hear you and understand the greed behind it. But that just to put people through hell with a slim chance of success. The T-cell thing has an extremely good success rate:

Remission rates of more than 50% and response rates of more than 80% were seen in one group with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Patients with chronic lymphocyte leukaemia demonstrated similar results.

There are a few kinks to work out still though:

Seven of the ALL patients suffered an immune reaction to the treatment, called cytokine release syndrome (sCRS), so badly they needed intensive care. Two died. The scientists are now trying to find ways to reduce the risk from sCRS.

So if this is ironed out. you can have at least an 80% success rate. That's remarkable. I can also only assume it doesn't make the patients sick to a point where they would rather die than go for Chemo.

Please people. Don't eat apricot seeds. Not only are they not going to cure your cancer, they can be quite harmful.

Also note these conspiracy theorist things don't make an awful lot of sense. The pharmaceutical company that creates a cure for cancer basically dominates that market. They will crush all opposition in that market. None of their competitors will be able to compete. There is no logic behind telling me pharmaceuticals don't want to cure cancer, there is incredible money in it.

Also don't tell me researchers don't want to be the ones that discover a cure. The research team that makes this discover will make their mark on human history. Children will learn their names in school. They will be the subject of papers for generations to come. Fame and fortune for sure. There is plenty of incentive. The very fact that research like that discussed in the OP is happening is proof of this.
