Evening everyone. I am currently sitting on a Nokia 5230 contract for R145 pm. This phone... Well I can't really say anything good about it. It freezes, and freezes, and freezes, then switches off and freezes some more... I make use of WhatsApp to communicate with colleagues but just posting a message can take up to 10seconds (That's just to display the thing on the screen), then there's still the random freezing/switching off. Anyways I am going off track here. This is my first Cellphone contract so I want some advice please. I want to cancel this contract and move onto a BB Torch but im not really sure of the proceedings nor 100% sure of the penalty's (Which I am happy to pay). I am 1 Year 2 Months into my existing 24 Month Contract. Could somebody post any valid information that would help me before I go and phone Vodacom. Thanks :)

You would need to go through the process of having your phone sent to a repair centre and probably the software upgraded. If they cannot fix it they will replace it with the same phone, maybe read through the documents you signed? Sorry, no way you can replace the phone after over a year for a different phone, not until your upgrade is due... Not even if you offer to pay the difference. Remember the warranty is held by the phone manufacturer, so I don't see Nokia refunding you after more than a year to buy a blackberry!!

If you really want a blackberry now you will have to buy one cash. Even the CPA won't help you here.

Dude, cancelling your contract will cost you a tub of Vaseline and more then the amount owing for the remaining period of your contract. Unfortunately, you are not protected by the CPA (consumer protection act), as your contract was entered into prior 01/04/2011. Phone vodacom and they will quote you a cancellation price, apply said Vaseline and take it like a man. Alternatively, have you not upgraded your phone firmware yet? or maybe taking it in for vadacom to look at, these will probably be your best and cheapest option/s.

Agreed. Take your phone to the closest Vodacare centre first. Then take it from there.
