Are there any forumites here that make Jams or preserve their own food or veggies..?

I am looking for a place/places that sell pectin and citric acid.

We are currently experimenting with a tomato and onion mix.

Did a batch last week and will do another over the weekend.

I make one batch of Marmelade a year - for Pectin, I roll my own. Just cook the pips and dividers of the citrus - (I use Kuquats so there is plenty to go around). Some of the older pharmacies used to stock pectin & citric acid - last time I bought citric acid at my local grocery store

yeah pectin is time consuming but quite easy to extract yourself.

In one of our old houses there was a fig tree in the back alley, and we were the only ones who really knew about it. We used to go crazy when the figs were in season, picking them in baskets full and making pots of fig jam. Our fridge would be stocked with a whole row of jam jars and we would give them out to people.

Mickey- are you making a sweet tomato jam or more of a dip?

Still don't know about the citric acid but Linda's bake (and something) sells it for R43/100g or a bit less per KG.
