Hello all

So, got a 2mb uncapped telkom line.

Everything works fine except connecting to the iTunes store and the app store, regardless from whichever device I use (macbook, iphone, etc). [Oh, and no torrents connect either, but that's less pressing right now].

Telkom's 10210 have given abysmally useless suggestions and I am now pretty stuck.

If there is a special setting that needs changing, or something, please shout.

I am in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

Cheers

Does it work when using 3G?

Yes, just confirmed that iPhone can connect to itunes and app store over 3g fine.

It's now just macbook that cannot go over adsl to itunes store or app store.

appreciate the response!

That is very odd. Could it be your router is blocking the port?

Sjoe, how would I check such? It feels like that, definitely.

An apple forum suggested repairing disk permissions, which I am now doing, but I am not hopeful.

You would have to log into your router and see if it is blocking ports. I'm not sure what router you have or how to do it on your router.
Another thing to check is your firewall settings (Go into Preferences -> Security if I remember correctly) and see if the firewall is active. See if turning it off helps

Cool, will do and revert. BTW it's the generic Telkom Billion. Booya

Sorry, I have no idea how the Telkom Billion routers are set up.
You should be able to search for it online

I cant access iTunes store either.....damn sure its related to the other threads talking about Telkoms shaping since Feb. Just wish they would quit buggering around and stop the attempted shaping until they know what they are doing.

I found out that since telkom internet moved to the new IP range there is a geolocation issue with the stores. Give a short time for the sites to register that this IP is in South africa and everything should be sorted. I heard they are working on it

I have the same issue with the iTunes store but also have no FTP access. On trying to log in to any of the servers I maintain websites on I get an error saying no response from server. So thanks to Telkom no work = no money

Have the same itunes issue as well as FTP - just spoke to telkom they suggest i replace the router!!!!!!!!!!! WTF

I have exactly the same problem, I cant access App Store, Itunes stor from Apple Mac, Windows PC, Iphone and Ipad. The error message from iTunes is "iTunes cannot connect to the iTunes store the network connection was reset"

I also had this problem yesterday, however at 10h30 last night all started working, but today it is down again.

Called Telkom and they admitted that their is an issue accessing these applications. They do not know what is wrong or when it will be fixed.

My problems started last Friday when I upgraded from a 4meg line with a 20 gig cap to an Uncapped 4meg line. I have also noticed a huge slow down in any international web site. Maybe thats why Telkom dropped their prices, they have provide the 1970,s underground phone lines to its uncapped users !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nick. It's not just the uncapped users that are affected. I have a 4meg 20Gig line like you used to have.
My international browsing has also slowed down quite a bit. And of course the iTunes store and FTP issues!!!
Why do we keep supporting these people?!?!?!

iTunes and FTP Fault

I have the same issue with the iTunes store but also have no FTP access. On trying to log in to any of the servers I maintain websites on I get an error saying no response from server. So thanks to Telkom no work = no money

I have spoken to Telkom and they say this is a known fault and they are working on it. It did work Thursday 7th Feb night at 9:30pm but was off again today. I think its got something to do with shaping and priorities. FTP and Secure network access seems to be affected. This stops iTunes Store and FTP from working.

When I called Telkom the person on the Tech support desk didn't know what FTP was ! I have an urgent website update and I cant FTP it.....

Come on Telkom - FIX THIS PLEASE - I have just moved from Internet Solutions and didn't experience one fault in 4 years. I dont need this headache!
