I used to be able to access my routers homepage through the default gateway which i found by going
cmd > ipconfig /all

but for the last month or so, I haven't been able to access the router through the default gateway.
when I type ipconfig /all into the command box, next to 'Default Gateway', nothing is displayed?

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Oh yes, and I can access the routers homepage from every other pc in the house, just not mine.

Since you know what the IP Address is, from the other pc's, have you tried going directly to that IP in a browser on your machine?

Wow thats odd...I assume pinging it you get no response? Are all the machines networked with each other?

Maybe do a hard reset... look in your manual what the default will be after it.

Are you using a Wired or Wirless connection?

Do you obtain your Ip address automatically or is it setup manually?

Try setting up your Ip address manually, you can always change it back.

Run cmd > ipconfig /all on the other computer that seems to be working.

Take note of its
IP v4 address, eg 192.168.0.62
Sub net mask eg 255.255.255.0
default gateway eg 192.168.0.1

Change the IP settings on the pc thats giving you the problems based on the information you gathered (just remenber to change the ip v4 address, eg 192.168.0.63)

If this doesn't work then a hard reset will probably be a quicker option (usually hold the reset button for a few seconds) but you will need your default login details as well as your adsl login details.

If you have not had a default gateway set for a month or so I am interested as to how you are getting internet access on that machine? Are you in fact able to? Are you able to browse to other machines?

Sounds like ur just not getting a correct ip address? Any chance someone manually edited ur network settings?

what is the output of ur ipconfig /all settings and the same on a machine thats working?

This probably has something to do with IPv6, where your PC is running a newer OS that is relying on IPv6 first and your router is a bit out of date.

There is a simple process to follow. Do a factory reset on the router. If the routers default IP gets reset to 192.168.0.1 then set the IP on your XP machine to 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 (For testing you won't need a default gateway as its on the same subnet)

You should then be able to ping the router. Then try accessing it using IE and FF, failing that open a dos box and run "telnet 192.168.0.1 80"

If the connection fails then your router is stuffed.

BTW: What router is it?

Yeah i have to agree with gregmcc. Also just as a 'lets try everything' method maybe you should try a different browser or fresh install of your current......also i see gregmcc mentioned telneting to the router, did you get any response?

Just thought I would check back in here and say that I resolved the problem.
I ran a check on all my network adapters on windows and it picked up that DHCP wasn't enabled.
It enabled it for me and now I can access my router's homepage!
