Hi

My ADSL line syncs fine at 384k, but the data light on the router is off and it seems as if it can't connect to any ISP.

I also cannot dial a PPPoE connections.

Is the fault with me or with Telkom?

I've tried Afrihost and WebAfrica.

Dependant on the router you could check the status and diagnostic logs to get more of an idea exactly why you cannot connect.

A basic rundown of the process is Sync -> sends PADI packet to check for PPPoE services,if it doesn't receive a PAD0 packet in a timely manner it fails to attempt to establish a connection. This could either be router related or a telkom issue with the specific exchange port which they must replace

I'm typing from my phone, but:

DSL mode: ADSL2+
Up: 123kbps
Down: 384kbps
Downstream SNR: 45.4db
Loop Attenuation: 19.9db

When I run a diagnostic test I get:
ADSL Connection: Pass
Test OAM F5 and F4:Fail
Test PPP Server Connection: Fail
Test Authentication with Isp: Fail

And a few other fails...

I have reset the modem to default settings, still doesn't work.

Other users in the are has no problems...

But why won't it connect as a dialup connection? It doesn't get pass connecting to mini wan port...

All things we knew already hehe ;)

Quickest option to get this fixed, borrow a friend's router and try it on your line, and test this router on a different line.

Then phone telkom, tell them you are unable to establish a PPPoE connection, tested with multiple routers or accounts, line does synch but there is a possible issue with the exchange port not advertising PPPoE. They should send a technician with a telkom router out to test and confirm before they go tackle the exchange ports

As far as your modem is concerned there is no PPPoE service to bridge your connection to,thus not allowing any connection as mentioned

Good question,an unactivated line could also prevent connections except to the telkom guest account

Existing line, worked fine for a year now, but we had a couple of power interruptions today.

Okay I borrowed my friend's USB modem and it also doesn't work. So do I need to phone Telkom now?

sounds like modem to me when u say power interruptions but it could also be the port in the exchange

Thanks for the help! Just two more questions?

This fault isn't because of the setup at home? We have 4 phones with a filter on each, so I doubt it would be my mistake.

What's the best number for dsl support? 10219?

Had the same problem.Called them and they reset it.
Working fine now.

If anyone is interested, just when the techie arrived the line wouldn't sync anymore. But he said he thinks my port is the problem.
