Cannot connect to Rain network

Hello, I have a Nokia C10 and a Vodafone Mobile WiFi router R217. I just purchased a Rain Sim from a rep,she says that data is loaded but I cannot access the internet. Do I have to do APN settings on my phone in order to access the router? Cos I never did that with the other sim that is in the router. The message I get is to sign in. That message I normally should get once my data is finished on the the previous Telkom data plan( and current sim card in the router) Please help,cos I spoke to the rep and she insists on setting APN settings on my phone but my phone is a 3G phone.
