I purchased a Zyxel Wireless 3G Router (nbg4115) from PC Zone so that I could plug the Vodacom Speed Stick (2g + 2g special) and share connection with others at home.

I followed all the instructions and can connect via wifi to the router and see the settings.

However the Stick does not connect, it just flashed green. I tried using from my laptop and it works.

Here are the settings are tried.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cant seem to find many forums with the info to assist.

Connection Type - Mobile 3g
Pin Code - xxxx
APN Code - internet
Dial Number - *99***1#
UserName - blank
Password - blank

Which modem (manufacturer and model) did you get with your Vodacom 2g+2g special?

Is it on the Zyxel routers supported list of modems?

Hi ginggs,

Model = K4505 and manufacturer is Hauwei.

I got this deal about 2 months ago.

I am to wits end trying settings...

Thanks

The Vodafone K4505 is a re-branded Huawei E1820, unfortunately I don't see either on your router's compatibility list:

It may be worth trying the firmware update anyway:

Failing that, try contacting Zyxel directly or look at replacing your router with a TP-Link router which is known to work with your modem.

Edit: Try *99# instead of *99***1# as well.

Thanks ginggs.

Apparently the K4505 has been discontinued according to vodacom.

PC Zone won't take their modem (purchased yesterday) so a cheaper option for me is to buy a compatible modem for around R400.00 (if zyxel cant assist).

I tried a E220 modem which I had it, it get picked up by the modem set up and the dashboard shows the 3g status is up but still does not connect.

I can use it from my PC which works.

I even tried *99# also does not connect. Is there something you think I am missing?

Seems I tried to be smart and save R400.00 which might leave me which a redundant router...

That seems to be a Vodacom saleman's trick, anything they don't have in stock is 'discontinued', see here.

 Doesn't the new CPA give us additional rights for returns and refunds? You should fight this.

I finally got this working. Zyxel is really problematic to set up and the manual is not that helpful.

But thanks ginggs the *99# worked as well. Vodacom insisted I used *99***1#

Few other tweaks all sorted.

Please post your setup here for others people who might run into the same problems.

Zyxel manuals suck, but the product is great! I run a WiFi network that spans +-200mtrs around my 2 properties using their WiFi AP's :) and that is without extended antennaes etc.

I will post screenshots of the setup might be easier for someone to follow.

Zyxel is cr@p and the support from PC Zone is even cr@pper.

The router is up and the 3g devices connects to HSDPA.

When connecting from samsung gt-p1010 via wifi to router, the router restarts. Complete bomb out.

I tried assing static ip address for the mac address of the tab on the router, still same issue.

I tried my tab on a netgear and linksys rotuer, works 100s.

PC Zone wants to charge me 150 to confirm its an issue.

I post a number of support queries to zyxel but they dont seems to care.

Should have just bought the netgear from Incredible Connect and 300 bucks more and went without food for a few days... :(

or look at replacing your router with a TP-Link router which is known to work with your modem.

The TP-Link (both 3220 and 3420 with July firmware) does not work well with the K4505 (not -Z). It randomly detects the modem incorrectly as "3G modem" and drops the connection often. Using a E1820 on the same router in the same location works 100%.

I downgraded to an old E220 I had laying around which seems to work prettly nicely. It 3.6 Mbps which is not too shabby.

Hi mamoo, i facing the same problem as you, my E220 cant connect to internet after setting up my zxyel nbg 4115 router, could you advice what went wrong? Thanks.

I have purchased the same ZyXEL router and I also cannot get the Router to connect on the Huawei K3770 modem.
I also updated to the latest firmware release on the ZyXEL site which is currently V1 BFS.6 and still no luck.
I will keep trying to look for a solution.
