Hi Guys

I did a fresh xp sp2 install and now i get the message that tells me to turn on windows auto update so i click the ballon and when i click "turn on auto update" i get a message saying unable to change auto update settings.

I have been googling the whole day and tried everything but nothing works.

Any ideas ?

I had a similar issue ... did you try doing a manual update?

Go to control panel>security centre and select 'Check for latest updates on Windows update' (located on the left hand side panel of window.

It worked for me. Remember to select custom installation so that you can select which ones you want to install.

Hope this helps.

I have tried that and it opens the update site and then stops telling me that some of the items required to perfom the request is not running.

start/run/cmd

type in

proxycfg -d

then type in

net stop wuauserv

then type in
net start wuauserv

lets see if it is working now

i must sat thats a weird problem, the service for that might have been stopped somehow.See if its running
go to control panel/admin/services

@ werner - ok i tried that but no luck

I have the sp3 installation file.

Just before i formatted it did the same and right after a clean install when you go into windows it started doing the sam again, how is that possible after a clean install ?

Would it help if i did a new clean install using normal format this time ? last time i used quick.

The BITS service is there and running but not he autorun service.

When i started troubleshooting the service was there but you could not start it manualy and it also does not start automaticly with startup
